Fredrick Seligman

Fredrick (Fred) Seligman, 88 of Atlanta, passed away March 9, 2019 at Emory Johns Creek Hospital with his children by his side. Fred is survived by his daughter Sherry, sons Stephan and Marc, daughter-in-law Suzanne, grandchildren Maranda Hensley, Taylor Seligman, Nathan Seligman and great granddaughter Lily Reed Seligman, sister-in-laws Irene Seligman, Beverly Morris, Carol Liebowitz (Bruce), brother-in law David Saluk, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sylvia, his dearly loved son Reed, mother and father, Nathan and Sara Seligman, brothers and sisters Hazel Seligman, Leonard Seligman, Sybil Barnett (husband Herman), Dorothy Landau (husband Sol), and brother Preston Seligman (wife Maxine). Fred loved to work, and continued to work until the age of 79. Fred was co-owner of Seligman Inc., a men and boys wholesale clothing business he owned and ran with his brother Preston. When the business was later sold, Fred went on to work as a manager at Jax Liquor Store in Sandy Springs for many years. Fred loved his career, but his favorite job was being a father and grandfather. Fred loved life, and you rarely found him without a smile on his face. His smile was infectious, his baby blue eyes lit up a room, and his dry wit and humor kept everyone laughing. His heart was golden, and he was truly a warm, kind man who lived life to the “max” no matter the surroundings. Fred was not ready to depart this earth, but he accepted his death with grace, dignity and courage. Fred’s family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and palliative care teams at Emory Saint Joseph and Johns Creek hospitals who cared for him during his illness. In addition, special thanks to his caregivers Yvonne Fletcher and Sonia Thomas. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019 in the Columbarium at Southern Cremations and Funerals, 1861 Dallas Highway SW, Marietta, GA 30064 at 1 p.m. with Rabbi Judith Byner officiating.
