Lamar A. Smith

December 29, 1948 ~ July 2, 2025

Lamar Alexander Smith, 76, entered eternal rest on July 2, 2025. He was born on December 29, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Alberta Martin and John Henry Smith. Lamar was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Howard High School (Atlanta Public Schools). He went on to continue his education at Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia. Lamar enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the height of the Vietnam War. During his military service he was awarded two Purple Hearts among other notable commendations. After serving his country as a Marine, he worked for Beaudry Ford for many years before pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors until his retirement. In addition to his military service and professional pursuits, he devoted and expressed great enthusiasm and dedication for his affiliations to the Freemasons, as a member of the St. James Lodge No. 4. He was also a member of the Shriners. He is survived by a daughter, Loretta Lee Smith (George Cody), a son, Lamar West Smith, grandchildren, Timothy A. Smith (Jasmine), and Rashunda Y. Smith, great-grandchildren, Ja’Miyah Hill, Courtney Smith, and Aiden Adams, a brother, Larry Smith, and a sister Toni Cosby Butler. He also leaves behind a host of loved ones and friends. While Lamar was small in stature, by all accounts wherever he went and whomever he encountered, he left a big impression.
