Addie Ellene Daniel Brooks

January 28, 1929 ~ April 14, 2019

Ellene Brooks died quietly in her sleep on April 14, 2019 at the age of 90. She born on January 28, 1929 to Joe B. and Addie Maloney Daniel in Marietta, GA. She graduated from Marietta High School and studied to become a hairdresser. She and her six brothers and sisters grew up on the farm where Eastside Baptist Church is located now. She married J. T. Brooks on February 19, 1949. They raised three children together and were happily married until his death on Nov. 30, 2018. Ellene was a strong believer and worked tirelessly for the church where she was a charter member. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir and held many offices in the church as a young woman. In her later years she helped form and lead the senior adult ministry of the church and conducted exercise classes for seniors. One of the greatest joys of her life was her gardens. The vegetable garden provided fresh, canned and frozen food for the family but it was her many flower gardens which fed her soul. Her perennial garden, camellia garden, woodland garden, fish pond garden and patio garden kept her busy 6 hours a day most of the year round. She shared it with her community, church and garden club as well as providing plants to friends and family. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Nancy Platten (Hugh), Johnny Brooks (Lora) and Beaver Brooks {Kathy); her sister, Shirley McDaniel; 10 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. We will celebrate her life on May 4, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Student Center at Eastside Baptist Church, 2450 Lower Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30068. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 am in the foyer of the Student Center. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Eastside Baptist Church or Much Ministries which provides economic aid to Haiti founded by Beaver and Kathy Brooks.
