Eunice Mae Williams

November 22, 1921 ~ May 30, 2019

Eunice Mae Williams, 97, of Marietta, GA, went home to be with the Lord May 30, 2019. She was born November 22, 1921 to Oliver and Matilda Stevens in McIntosh, GA. She was the seventh of eleven children. She was educated at the historic Dorchester Academy in Midway, GA. Much of her life, she lived in Jacksonville, FL before relocating in 2000 to Marietta, GA to be closer to family. Eunice enjoyed family and fellowship. Most of all she loved the Lord. She had a keen thirst for the word. She loved attending church and watching television especially Christian broadcast. She also enjoyed gospel hymnals. As a young adult, she moved to Jacksonville, FL and became a member of Dayspring Baptist Church where she accepted Christ as her savior. There she joined the Gospel Choir. She often sung spirituals as she prepared her family meals. She also enjoyed helping others. Helping at times silently or where ever there was a need. She made many sacrifices as a single parent to take care of her children. Before starting her barbering career, Eunice worked a number of jobs including working as a domestic worker and as a cook in the Duval County School cafeteria. She later returned to the Duval County School System (DCSS) as a custodian to supplement her barbering income and later retired after over 15 years of service. Several years after moving to Marietta, Eunice continued her spiritual journey by becoming a member of World Changers Church International in 2004. She also joined the Harriett Darnell Senior Center two years prior. As an active participant at the Harriett Darnell Senior Center, she volunteered with the Adult Day Care assisting attendees traveling to different events. She participated in many activities including group exercise and computer classes, as well as, traveling to different senior sponsored affairs. She was a fixture at the center for some fourteen years where she made many friends and acquaintances. Eunice cherished her life as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a remarkable memory. She often recited poems from her childhood to her daughters when they were children. She loved being active and delighted in the time spent with her family. In her later years, she enjoyed word search puzzles and competing with others to complete the puzzle. Her unique laugh was contagious. Eunice was preceded in death by her spouse Willie L. Williams; parents Oliver and Matilda Stevens; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Jackson (Clifford); nine of her eleven siblings. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Janice C. Mumford (David) of Canton, GA; Sandra Marlena Williams of Marietta, GA; stepson Willie Taylor (Nellie) of Douglasville, GA; sister Helene Monroe of New York, NY; eight grandchildren Tara F.
