He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he built lifelong friendships and lived by the values of honor, courage, and commitment. The dedication he showed in service carried through every part of his life. As a member of Open Word Christian Ministries, he deepened his faith, grew in the word, and found strength and purpose in the Bible.
He was born with a passion for life and love for the game of basketball. From a young age, James played through some college and into semi-pro leagues. His competitive spirit on the court was matched by his ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him.
James was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Smith. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife of 15 years, Michele Smith; children, James Marshall, Jason Marshall, Precious Smith, Ahlon Glenn, Alaina Glenn, Amia Glenn, and Ahlia Glenn; his grandchildren, Jayce Johnson, Mila Marshall, Mya Marshall, Ashton Glenn, and Ayla Glenn; his mother, Laverne Lockhart; his twin brother, Frederick Smith; and his siblings, Kimani Lockhart, Mohummad Shabazz, and Naim Rachman. He will also be lovingly remembered by many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
James will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
A visitation with family and friends will be held Saturday, October 4. 2025 from 11:00am until 12:00pm at Southern Cremations and Funerals, 431 SW Broad St, Fairburn, GA. A celebration of life will follow immediately after.

I had the privilege of representing James. He was the bravest and hardest fighting client I have ever had. He was loved and is loved by an angel- Michelle. I know his children and brother Freddy and wish them am my deepest condolences on their loss. I share their pain.
With love to your family- may this tree represent your towering strength and endurance- and provide comfort to those you loved.
The first memory that I have about me and my twin brother was when we was in kindergarten and we pulled out for a switch. She was supposed to go to the zoo and he did not wanna go, and I went for him and later the teacher thought that I was him, but I told her I was Fred
I love you Unc❤️
I will never forget Uncle Jim and Aunty Michelle taking me out the country for the first time ever after i graduated HS. Even just leaving the state was a big shocker to me.
