Joseph Neil Molkie

February 16, 1944 ~ November 9, 2025

Our loving dad, Joseph Molkie passed away at home surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He passed peacefully and through his belief in the Lord we know he was welcomed into the kingdom where he was reunited with his wife of 53 years, Sarah (Nisssen) Molkie who passed five years earlier in 2020 and with his dearly missed son, T.J. (Timothy Joseph Molkie) who proceeded his death 41 years earlier in 1984 at the age of 11. Joe was born in Hanford, CA and was raised in Walla Walla, WA by his parents Leonard W. Molkie and Grace L. (Maloy) Molkie, both whom passed in 1986 and 1988. Joe lived in Walla Walla until he joined the US Air Force 778th Radar Squad in 1962. He served four active years and two years of reserves at which time he met, fell in love with and married Sarah Nissen in her home town of Havre, MT. Joe and Sarah began their life together building their family in 1966. Returning home to Washington state Joe attended and graduated from Walla Walla College first with his Associates in Arts and then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Business Administration all while being a new husband and father. Joe dedicated his live to his family, country and government retiring in 2014 from DoD – DCMA-Atl after serving the United States Government for 43 years. Joe believed in education and continually growing; this was evident in his encouragement to his children and grandchildren to study hard and continue to college along with all his own continuing education, certificates of achievement and awards during those 43 years. Living and loving life, working hard Joe was dedicated to being constantly present in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Life for Joe and his family included numerous places from Washington state, to Alaska onto Colorado and settling in Georgia in 1997 where he was able to enjoy being a part of his grandchildren’s lives. Joe leaves behind his two daughters Christine Michelle and Jo Ann Molkie and his cherished grandchildren: Austin Joseph Molkie, Katrina Lynn Molkie and Alyssa Ann Molkie. Joe was an amazing father and grandfather. He was always involved with his children whether it be playing or taking them out for ice cream or to the park, coaching softball in Alaska or driving to and from tennis & swimming lessons and teaching them to ice skate. Joe was just as active as a grandpa as he was a dad. Playing on the floor, teaching his grandson to ride a bike, or throwing the ball behind the middle school. Joes love for music and playing the guitar for his children then became something he shared and tried to teach to his grandchildren. He loved just spending time with them; from rocking in the chair and watching wrestling to sharing a good plate of ribs & baked beans. He sat and enjoyed many dance recitals, band, cheer, and gymnastic competitions. As his grandchildren grew, he was vested in their interests and their dreams always encouraging them and letting them know how proud he was. The family was so blessed to have had the opportunity to hold his hand, hear his jokes, have conversations and to laugh and sing with him. He will be deeply missed and always remembered. We love you Dad / Grandpa! A final resting place has been selected where my dad will be joined with his wife and his son.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I am so blessed to have held his hand and hear his words. He is always so concerned with his family and at the end he told me that he was glad I was there with him. This will forever be remembered and cherished. I love you Dad! Your Daughter JoAnn

  2. Christie, Jo Ann, Austin, Katrina & Alyssa says:

His laughter will remain in our hearts and memories forever

  3. Our memories are too many to list, but one memory stands out the most and brings back so many laughs. Ron and I hosted a costume party and Sarah and Joe came so well disguised, no one there could figure out who they were. We were all discussing whether someone had come to the right party. They probably thought we were all ignoring them, ( we were), because we didn’t know who were under those great costumes of an old man and old woman. They just nodded their head when ask anything, they even kept their voices from all of us. We were all so shocked when they revealed themselves. Needless to say we all agreed they fooled us. We have so many good memories while they were in Walla Walla, when Joe’s job took them away a big part of our group of friends were missed. Joe continued to stay in touch after Sarah was gone, calling not long ago to say he loved us. We love you Joe and will miss you. Give Sarah and TJ a hug for us. R.I.P. our dear friend.

  4. Our deepest sympathy, sending you strength and peace.Bonnie and Frank

  5. Ernest & Philip Storrer says:

In memory of our childhood friend, Joe.
