Joann Claire "Mimi" Danforth

December 22, 1930 ~ December 27, 2025

Joann Claire Danforth, age 95, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025. Born Joann Applewhite on December 22, 1930, in Wilmington, North Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of George and Eva Applewhite. She graduated from Sacred Heart College in NC and later married Thomas Marion Danforth. Together they raised seven children: Tommy, Greg, John, David, Jana, Steven, and Carol. Her legacy continues through her thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply. After devoting many years to raising her children, she pursued her calling in healthcare, earning her nursing degree from Kennesaw Junior College. She proudly served as a registered nurse, caring for patients at Cobb General and Kennestone Hospitals, and later through private duty nursing, until her retirement. Her compassion and dedication touched countless lives. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose home was always filled with warmth. She found joy in painting, music, reading, singing, gardening, cooking, and baking—especially her famous pound cakes, said to be the best in the South. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. A devoted servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, she was the spiritual leader of the family. Her faith guided her life and continues to inspire those she leaves behind. She was known for her quick wit, gentle humor, and memorable sayings that will forever echo in the hearts of her loved ones. One of the most treasured was, “I love you, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.” The family finds comfort in knowing that she is now in heaven, watching over them.
