David Owen Gray

April 19, 1960 ~ February 2, 2026

David Owen Gray, age 65, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 19, 1960, in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. David was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Mabel; his father, Barry Owen; his brother, Shaun; and his beloved grandparents, Frank and Mary Gray. David is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Michele, and their two sons, Jordan and Matthew. He is also survived by his siblings, Kevin, Wayne, and Wanda, who reside in South Africa; his uncle and aunt, Keith and Rosheen, of New Zealand; and his aunt, Merilyn, of Howick, South Africa. David attended the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, where he earned his Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) between 1978 and 1984. From a young age, he loved playing on construction sites with his brothers and always knew he wanted to become an architect. He was truly blessed to spend his life working in a profession he was deeply passionate about. In 1986, David took Michele’s hand and embarked on a great adventure, crossing the Atlantic Ocean to begin a new life in the United States. They shared many faith-filled stories and wonderful memories while putting down roots in Georgia. David grew to love this country and felt especially fortunate to have visited 48 of its 50 states. He found great fulfillment in his architectural work in the U.S., particularly enjoying CAD design and SketchUp. In 2011, he began what he often described as his favorite role of all at Americold Logistics in Atlanta. David spent more than 14 years with Americold and truly loved every moment working alongside his peers and leadership. He often said his job brought him true joy. He was also a proud member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Beyond his career, David’s passions included cooking for his family—his delicious recipes will be cherished and passed down for generations. He loved golf and was fortunate to attend the Masters in Augusta, Georgia, on several occasions. He also enjoyed chess and was an avid reader. David shared many memorable trips with his wife and sons, traveling throughout the United States and abroad, including Ireland, South Africa, France, and New Zealand. These joyful adventures created countless memories that his family will treasure forever. David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, our strong David. Psalms 147:3:“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

  1. A Memorial Tree was planted for David Owen Gray says:

We are deeply sorry for your loss ~ Southern Cremations & Funerals Cheatham Hill- Marietta

  2. Michele, Jordan and Matthew; We have deep sorrow over the loss of David. The first thing that comes to mind when I remember him is his infectious laugh. He was fun to be around. The Christmas and Easter meals together are a sweet memory.
I remember a moving day that displayed his stamina and strength. Something broke while moving the washing machine, water was spilling on the floor and David went outside to cut off the water. He was met with some kind of bee or wasp that stung him as he worked to get the water turned off. He was hurting but did not let that deter him from the tasks at hand.
He will be missed and remembered. We thank our Lord Jesus Christ for allowing us to have him as a friend and brother in Christ.

  3. Praying for God’s comfort to be abundant. My first memories of David was the prayer and Bible study we had at your home, his heart for prayer was such a blessing to me! I love y’all and grateful we can take comfort that David is now face to face with his Lord Jesus Christ. We will meet him soon in Heaven where there is no more tears, no more loss, and no more sin.
    Revelation 21:3-5

[3] And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. [4] He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

[5] And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

  4. David,

I will never forget how you would always arrive at work entering the office suite whistling an upbeat tune while heading to your desk.

Thanks for your help in making sure that our office buildouts were completed timely and with accuracy no matter how challenging.

Thanks for your understanding, realizing that no matter how many projects were pending, I could always count on you to take time to help me with pop-ups.

Thanks for being a valued friend and colleague. I will truly miss you.

    Respectfully,
    Alandra Boggan

  6. Michele, I am still in shock at the news of David’s passing! I have such fond memories of David … from when we first met you two at CCS basketball games, to talking Atlanta Falcons football, to him sharing about your home country and his various work travels over dinner at one of the many restaurants we tried out together … it is so surreal. I continue to pray for God’s peace and comfort for you, Matt and Jordan.

  7. Michelle, Jordan and Matt,
Beth and I send our condolences to you in the passing of David. Prayers in the days ahead for peace and comfort.
    Brian Patrick
