James “Jimmy” Patterson Jr.
July 4, 1944 – February 4, 2026
James Patterson Jr., 81, of Norfolk, VA, passed away peacefully at home in McDonough, GA, on February 4, 2026.
A proud veteran and a lifelong learner, Jimmy served three years in the U.S. Army before earning his accounting degree from Rutgers University. His career spanned decades and states, including roles at Ford, AT&T, and BellSouth, as well as several successful entrepreneurial ventures. He eventually retired from Schottenstein’s Department Stores in Ohio before returning to Georgia in 2023.
Jimmy was a true "jack of all trades" who believed any problem could be solved with the right book and a little determination. He was known for his love of sports—from the basketball courts of his youth to the golf courses of his later years—and his legendary "gift of gab." Above all, he was a devoted provider and the rock of his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Gloria Jean Forbes Patterson; children Andrea Baker and Randall Patterson; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.

My condolences to our family for the loss of Uncle Jimmy I will definitely miss his humor
Dear Family,
Mere words çannot begin to express my sincere condolences of sympathy regarding Jimmy’s transition. As I reflect on his legacy and life, I am thankful for the numerous times that I was blessed with sharing joyous times with him, Gloria, and family during gatherings. He always greeted me with warmth, a glowing smile, and a hug that relayed the loving spirit he carried. While it is extremely painful to imagine him gone from his earthly existence, it is equally comforting to know that he is now proudly walking on the streets of gold in Heaven with his Lord & Savior. The confirmation of being absent from the body is to be present with The Lord gives hope for healing to all broken hearts who love him. Sleep in Heavenly peace dear Jimmy, and know that you will never be forgotten for all the wonderful earthly deeds you fulfilled.
Humbly Submitted,
Cousin Deborah Kay Blount
