A great friend for nearly 50 years … we shared dinners, sporting events, travel, books and especially laughs since 1977 … although 13 years older, he always beat me at tennis … he helped me through my divorce in 2011-12 and later served as my best man when I remarried in 2021 … after retiring and moving to Florida that same year he had an open invitation to visit and take the big box of books I was saving for him … just too many memories, but they will endure when the sadness leaves … rest in peace Whittle.
Was honored to have Whittle as my best man, March 16, 2021
C. L. Whittle, thank you for your service to our country. May you rest in peace. My condolences and prayers to your family.

LaRue, the charming baby boy of three sisters, wasn’t just my uncle—he was a legend! My mother, the indomitable “Pot” Medlin, was the family’s superhero glue, holding us together through childhood’s wild ride. Our summers were a whirlwind of epic adventures: conquering Six Flags like theme park warriors, geeking out at museums, and paying homage to the iconic Big Chicken in Marietta—a poultry landmark that would make any road tripper proud. Despite LaRue’s Georgia Tech allegiance, I rebelliously pledged my heart to the Georgia Bulldawgs. As the Class of 1960 Mascot for Laurinburg High, I scored the golden ticket to senior shenanigans, tagging along with my coolest uncle and soaking up every moment of teenage glory. Who said family trips can’t be a comedy of epic proportions? I will miss my uncle and trips to Atlanta but the memories will keep him in my heart. Thank you LaRue for the memories!
Whittle was an absolute character. One of a kind. He mentored me in the Telecom Power Industry in the mid nineties. We played tennis, we talked sports, and we talked collections. I still have some of his baseball collection that gave me back in the day. He’ll be missed. There will never be another like him.
