Barbara Ann Woodson

July 31, 1945 ~ March 17, 2026

Barbara Ann Woodson, age 80, of Acworth, Georgia formerly of Charleston, West Virginia, peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on March 17, 2026.

Barbara was born July 31,1945, in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Joseph I. Jones and Annie Mae Mallett Jones.

Barbara Ann, as she was affectionally called by many, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.

Barbara spent her childhood and early adult years in the Village of Urbancrest, Ohio. She attended Union Baptist Church, where she was baptized at the age of 13. Barbara’s thirst for knowledge would lead her from the Village of Urbancrest to Central State University. Barbara’s strength of character, integrity, unquestionable faith and resolve would steer her down career paths where she would oftentimes be the “first” to open the door of inclusion for other people of color to enter.

As a dedicated and faithful worker, Barbara served as a Health Unit Coordinator at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, West Virginia for over 40 years. Barbara understood the assignment, and through a combination of knowledge, wit, skill and communication, she tirelessly brought comfort, care and peace to the lives of countless patients, families, and hospital staff.

Barbara loved to take on new opportunities. She enjoyed doing puzzles, participating in Bible Study, baking pound cakes, playing bid whist, traveling, and never turned down a trip to the beach. Barbara also had a knack for mailing the perfect card for birthdays, holidays and “just because.” Barbara never met a stranger and cherished time spent with new friends at the North Cobb Senior Center and the Walton Legacy Community.

Barbara remained a woman of joyfulness. She absolutely treasured her Covenant Christian Fellowship church family in Charleston, West Virginia where she was a member for many years, making life-long friendships. She sang on the Praise Team, taught Sunday School, was active in the youth program and served as a mentor and adult leader. Barbara moved to the Atlanta area in 2021.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister Gloria Jean Walker and her daughter-in law, Tamra Stephens Jones.

Barbara is survived by children, Brian W. Jones and Cicely N. Woodson. Grandsons, Bradley J. Jones and Dwight Ford, Jr. (Jamie). Sisters, Yvonne Chambers, Chigoke Adoma, Deborah (Marvin) Pickett and Amanda Jones. Great-Grandson, Oliver Ford.

Her legacy of love, compassion and service will carry forth in the actions and hearts of her nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and many dear friends.
