Mellie Clydean Lovelace

Mellie Clydean Lovelace, affectionately known as “Dee” to her family and friends, passed away peacefully. She carried a name rich with family legacy—”Mellie,” after her mother, and “Clydean,” after her father, Clyde.

Mellie lived a life defined by resilience, generosity, and unwavering faith. Raised during the Great Depression, she understood hardship and hunger firsthand, and that experience shaped her into a woman who gave freely to others. If Mellie had it, she shared it—no friend or neighbor in her presence ever went without a meal or a helping hand. Her home was a place of open doors.

Throughout her life, Mellie worked in various roles, including as a waitress, cook, cafeteria worker, and refinery security guard, but her greatest devotion was to her family as a homemaker.

A woman of faith, Mellie was a devoted member of Beulah Baptist Church. She cherished her community group and was especially passionate about the Covered in Prayer ministry. Through this ministry, she lovingly crafted prayer shawls and lap blankets for the sick and those in recovery, touching countless lives with both her prayers and her hands. Her favorite scripture, Psalm 23, reflected the peace and trust she carried throughout her life.

Mellie was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Collins and Mellie Bishop; her sisters, Edna Outhouse, Barbara Wood, and Mary Witte; and her granddaughter, Shari Kendall (“Our Princess”).

She left behind a legacy of love in her daughter, Donna Kendall (Curtis); her granddaughter, Megan Wheeless (McAllister); her great-grandson, Adlai Wheeless; and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

Mellie is remembered as a woman who gave selflessly, loved deeply, and prayed faithfully. Her life is a testament to compassion, strength, and enduring faith, and she is deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
