Joy Patrick Snow

January 27, 1938 ~ October 22, 2026

Joy Patrick Snow, aged 88, passed away peacefully in Marietta, Georgia. A beloved mother,
grandmother (“MeeMaa”), and friend, Joy lived a life rich in creativity, hospitality, and deep
devotion to her family.

Born on January 27, 1938, in Jacksonville, Florida, Joy grew up with a passion for art and
design. After attending Coral Gables High School, she spent two formative years at the
Parsons School of Design in New York City—a vibrant time in her life that she absolutely loved
and that shaped her lifelong eye for beauty. She lived at the legendary Barbizon Hotel for
Women, a home away from home for young ladies chasing their creative dreams in the city.

Joy was a woman of immense resilience, strength, and capability. For many years, she worked
in the banking industry while raising her four children alongside their father. In 1986, her life
entered a beautiful new chapter when she married Pat J. Snow and relocated to his
hometown of Mt. Airy, North Carolina.

Together, Joy and Pat built a wonderful life in their home along the scenic Blue Ridge
Parkway. On the mountain, Joy truly flourished. Her creative eye and endless warmth found a
home right on Main Street at her bridal shop, Joy’s Boutique. She was a long-standing and
active member of both the Mt. Airy Garden Club and the Arts and Crafts Guild. Known for her
impeccable hospitality, she loved cooking and entertaining, frequently hosting large, lively
luncheons that brought together friends and family against the backdrop of the mountains
she loved so much. And of course, as a lifelong animal lover, Joy was never without her dogs
by her side, each one a treasured member of the family.

Joy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 38 years, Pat J. Snow; her parents, Horace
and Sadie Hays; and her youngest son, Michael McKagen. Her beautiful legacy lives on
through her surviving family. She is survived by her children, Robert McKagen (Lauren), Marty
McKagen, and Cynthia Greene; and her stepchildren, Mitch Snow (Idalina), Lisa Blevins (Mark),
and Karen Snow. She was the proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Sarah McKagen,
Matthew McKagen, Scott McKagen, Gilbert Greene, Christina Greene, Patrick Blevins, and
Mally Becker.

A celebration of Joy’s life will be held by her family on Sunday, November 1, 2026 from 1:00
p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 2232 Sage Mountain Ct SW, Marietta, GA. Friends and family are welcome
to come together to share memories and celebrate a life beautifully lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Joy’s memory to the
Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (CureAlz.org or call 781-237-3800).

And when we’re gone, long gone,
the only thing that will have mattered
is the love that we shared,
and the way that we cared,
when we’re gone, long gone

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I have such happy memories of Joy when I was a teenage growing up in South Florida. We would gather at her house in Tequesta and whatever we were up to she would just smile and laugh at us…never bother us, just let us be kids. Always smiling, always a Joy… my deepest sympathies go out to her children and extended family. She truly lived up to her name…. Joy.

  2. Joy was a lady of many talents. I enjoyed being with her in Modern Gardeners Garden Club. She was so pleasant and had the most beautiful smile. Sure was a pleasure to know your beautiful mom.
