Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Patricia (Pat) Edwards was the only daughter of the late Woodrow and Carmen
Edwards. She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother Barrington.
She was the youngest of six children and is survived by brothers Randolph,
Townsend, Colin and Andrew. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews, grand
nieces and nephews.
Pat was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She migrated to New York with our family as a
toddler where she grew up and obtained her education. She worked in New York,
Florida and Georgia.
She was a happy person and was never afraid to tell us what she thought. She was
the glue of the family and was instrumental in initiating some of our reunions. She
constantly encouraged us to maintain contact with each other. She called us all
regularly to check on our wellbeing and inquire about important things in our lives.
She was fiercely independent, was generous and rarely asked for favors.
She was concerned and many times offered assistance to those less fortunate than
her so much so that her colleagues and friends would inform us of her deeds despite
the fact that she was reluctant to do so. She gave food to the homeless and tried to
find employment for those who were unemployed.
She loved Jamaica and would travel there often. At every chance, she would tell us
that it was the only place that she wanted to live. She departed just a few months
before work was to start on her home in her beloved Jamaica where she planned to
live permanently upon retirement.
We who knew and loved her are deeply saddened by her passing. Her memory will
live with us as long as we breathe. We take solace in the fact that she never suffered
and even though we think that she left us too soon, we know that her work was over
and that she flew away home.
Sleep well and rest in peace beloved sister and friend
