Laura Olive Loftin Boyer, age 69, loving wife and mother passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, August 15 at Sunrise of Buckhead Assisted Living in Atlanta.
Laura was born Anniston, AL in 1950 and grew up in Lebanon, PA and Moorestown, NJ. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 1972 and later received her masters’ degree in education From Georgia State University. In her early career, she taught elementary school in both Atlanta and Savannah.
She was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church, serving for many years in stewardship capacities related to Christian education including Godly Play and Education For Ministry.
Taking full advantage of living in different parts of the country as well as abroad, Laura found great joy in traveling and learning about historical, religious and cultural sites. She was also a voracious reader and frequent participant in book clubs.
In order to manage her Type-1 diabetes, Laura fully-embraced a healthy lifestyle involving exercise programs, bicycling and yoga.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordy and Sue Loftin and her sister, Julia Loftin Hewson, all of Gulf Shores, AL. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Thomas Boyer of Gulf Shores and her two sons, Matthew Boyer and James Boyer of Atlanta and their families including grandchildren Blakely, Ansley, Benjamin and Ryan Boyer.
A memorial service will take place at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta on Saturday August 24th at 10:00am.
An interment ceremony will take place at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Gulf Shores, AL. in late September.
