Peter James Blanar, 80, of Marietta, Georgia passed away peacefully Sunday, August 25, 2019. Born February 25th, 1939 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Steve and Anna Blanar. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Wanda Mae (Harding) Blanar.
Pete was a long-time resident of Carrollton, Ohio, and he and his wife, Wanda Blanar, were the owners of Walter’s Bar & Grill for over twenty-two years. After selling the business they relocated to Marietta, Georgia to be near family. Pete worked for Kennesaw State University for 15 years and retired from KSU in 2007. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.
Pete loved spending time with his family and friends, and he maintained many friendships with Carrollton, Ohio residents. He was very active in his church, St. Elizabeth Orthodox Church. Pete loved his Pittsburgh Steelers, and he loved to watch golf.
Surviving are his sister, Evaline Blanar of Sharon, PA; his children, Steve Blanar (Joy) of West Palm Beach, FL, Stephanie Higginbotham (Scott) of Hartville, OH, Brad West of Marietta, GA, and Kim Weeks (Tripp) of Marietta, GA; his grandchildren, Jessica Blanar DiDomenico (David) of Manhattan Beach, CA, Mark Blanar of Tampa, FL, Nicholas Higginbotham, Matthew and Maria, of Hartville, OH; Megan Higginbotham of Cleveland, OH, and Allison West of Marietta, GA; and his great grandchildren, Greyson and Giana Higginbotham.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Orthodox Church, 2263 E. Cherokee Dr., Woodstock, GA 30188. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Orthodox Church with Father Matthew Dutko officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Blvd., Canton, GA 30114.
