Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of our sweet Mother, Jewell Hurst Partain, on August 30, 2019. She was 88 years old. Born on November 6, 1930, one of 12 children, to Thomas P. Hurst and Sallie Johnson Hurst. She was a wonderful Mother and an amazing woman with many talents and accomplishments. After high school she moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and began her career with various telephone companies retiring with 29 years service from AT&T in Atlanta where she held several management positions. She loved God and was an active member of Rehoboth Baptist Church for 30+ years. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Her interests were yard work and flowers, do-it-yourself building projects and anything creative. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We loved her dearly and were blessed to have such a godly loving Mother. We will miss her terribly but celebrate her homecoming to God.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Partain Wann and Deborah Partain Denson, one grand-daughter, Kelly Knight (Kavin), three great-grands, Mekayla Neal, Kaleb Knight, Ally Knight, one great-great-grandson Hunter Morse, one brother Hershell Hurst, one sister Sally Hurst Karsten (Kit), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for September 21, 2019 at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church Chapel, 955 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30068 from 11:00AM to 12:00PM with a luncheon directly following.

I was blessed to know Jewell for 30 years at Rehoboth. She was such a remarkable woman who loved the Lord, her family and her church. She was always calling me to see how I was doing, telling me she had been praying for me, and asking what she could do to help. If I was ill, she was st my door with food. She was an excellent cook! I loved her cakes snd cobblers! I never tasted anything she made that was not delicious! She could do plumbing, lay tile and hardwood flooring, fix wall paper and so many more things. What lady (besides Jewell) do you know who ever asked for a miter saw for Mother’s Day? We were so blessed to have her As a member of our Bible Fellowship Class, and our Last Saturday Bible Study! When we used to meet in the Litte White House, she took charge of the pot luck dinners, and forced almost everyone out after the study so she could get everythig cleaned. She was always so active! She served for many years on the Singles Counsel at the Rehoboth. She loved her family and was always talking about them! She loved the trips she and her daughters would take! I am so glad she was a follower of Jesus! It brings me such comfort to know I will not only see her …but spend eternity with her! Jewell, we do not grieve for you, but for ourselves! When I get down about this, I just see you looking into the face of Jesus. Then I start singing praise songs like you are now able to do .. . face to face!
I remember when she really believed in me and told me that I was capable of anything when I was moving back to LA! And, our last conversation on the phone when she told me she wanted to go see some orchestra bands because she knew I loved this so much! I also loved her humor! She was so fun to be around! And, always helped Cynthia and I with everything that had to do with the Bible! I just can’t believe she’s gone, but to a higher power! Our God Almighty! I hope the family finds comfort in that! I know they do! My love to her! Yes, we’ll see her again!!
The Lord and His Angels have called upon Jewell for something greater than we can ever imagine! It is tragic that Jewell was taken from her Earthly Family and Loved Ones and yes the pain is something fierce, but although her fleshy body is no longer active and with us, her spiritual body is and will continue to impact the lives of others here on Earth and in Heaven! It will be Jewell’s hand on your shoulder when no one else is around! It will be Jewell that whispers in your ear when you’re faced with a difficult decision! It will be Jewell’s extra push, will-power and determination when you feel like you can’t go on! I loved her so and will miss her terribly. Jewell was a real pioneer! May God continue to Bless Your Family & Loved Ones with the Strength to Carry On! Sincerely, Nancy Knight
