Mr. William Edward Byrd, age 88, of 6400 Cochran Mill Rd., Palmetto, GA died Tuesday at South Fulton Medical Center. He was born in Stonewall, Ga. He was the son of the late Odie Guice Byrd and the late William M. Byrd. He was a retired civil service employee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces serving in World War II, where he served as a communication systems specialist. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bell Byrd of Palmetto, GA, daughter, Jane Chapman and Ben of Baton Rouge, LA, daughter Kathy Jones of Newnan, GA, Son David Byrd and Kim of Fayetteville, GA, grandchildren, Lorri King and Jeff of Baton Rouge, LA, Carey Chapman of Baton Rouge, LA, Clint Chapman and Karen of Baton Rouge, LA, Rob Chapman and Wendy of Baton Rouge, LA, Allie Byrd of Mt. Crested Butte, CO, Ben Byrd of Fayetteville, GA, and James Byrd of Fayetteville, GA. Seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may visit the family on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services for Mr. William Edward Byrd will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Holly Hill Funeral Home. Rev. Dusty Wammack will officiate. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the National Parkinson Foundation PO Box 5108 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
