Thomas Earl Stephens, Jr., age 89, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011. T.E. was born in Old Campbell County on July 15, 1921, the son of Thomas Earl Stephens Sr. and Annie Shipp Stephens. He was preceded in death by sisters, Catherine Benfield, Thelma Langley, Ruth Croker and Evelyn McElreath and by his brother, R. T. (Bob) Stephens. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Melear Stephens; daughters, Elaine Bryant and her husband, Kenneth, Nina Landers and her husband Ray, Nancy Bridges and her husband Harry; son, Tom Stephens and his wife, Lynn; and brother, C. Perry Stephens. T.E. had eight grandchildren, two step granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He lived his childhood in the Fairburn area. During WWII, he served in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy, 71st Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees). He later worked for Whitehead Engineering. He retired from Delta Airlines after 28 years. T.E. was an active member of Rico United Methodist Church for many years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time with family and friends and helping others. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 14, from 5 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 2 pm on Friday, July 15 with Rev. Richard Davies officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Holly Hill Funeral Home 431 SW Broad Street, Fairburn, GA 30213 is in charge of the arrangements.
