Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Michael Dewayne Jones Sr. passed away on October 31, 2019 in the ICU at Memorial Health University Medical Center due to a sudden head aneurysm. In life Michael loved God and was not a stranger to anyone he met. He loved people and had a strong passionate for people to know God and be saved. Proceeding his death Michael was an organ donor where in death three people lives were immediately saved because of the use of his donated organs.
Michael was born a twin on March 3, 1969 to the parents of Linda M. Jones Calhoun (who in life was a singing sensation, strong will and minded woman of God) and Leo Stewart (a man who he was taught to honor and respect) at the Macon Medical Center in Macon Ga. He was educated in the Bibb County Public School System where he received general studies, played sports and was a member of the School J.R.O.T.C Program.
At a young age Michael loved to dance and sing. During his peak tenor singing voice he was so proudly joined the Georgia State Boys Choir where they traveled and sang throughout the City of Macon and various places in Georgia. As a teenager Michael and his friends developed a dance group they danced and lip synced at talent shows and backyard BBQ’s and parties imitating their favorite singing group New Edition with Michael as bad boy Bobby Brown. Dove Street, Canton Street, Ballard Drive and Maude C. Rye playground was full of love and people who truly cared about you and opened their doors, looked out after you, and treated you like you were their own. Michael often talked about being so glad to have lived in such an era as that was, those were the days.
Michael was baptized and accepted the invitation of Christianity by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. At a very young age under the leadership of Rev. Eddie D. Smith Sr. Senior pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church of Macon Georgia. There he served in the Macedonia youth department, sung in the children’s youth choir, and was a member of the church Boys Scouts where he loved the outdoor activities and camping trips they went on. Michael felt so blessed to have been a part of such a great ministry, as it was Macedonia that laid the foundation for his Christian walk. Fortunately in August he was able, before his death to come to go visit Pastor Smith and thank him personally for his teaching, leadership skills, love, and impact he played in his life, and simply to say “I love you”.
During his life Michael lived in Tampa, St. Petersburg Florida and other various cities in Florida where he traveled and worked in construction under the guidance of Rev. Jones. He later moved to Hinesville Georgia where he was employed by Brinco Roofing and Construction Company on Ft. Stewart Army base where they traveled working in various cities and states. While in Hinesville he was under the watch care of the “Holy Ghost Cowboy” Bishop Raymond Napper of the Power House of Deliverance.
As he moved on to Savannah Georgia he worked in high end upscale restaurants as a top cook. He loved to eat and cook. Michael was a former member of the Jonesville Baptist Church (P.A.W) where the Pastor Bishop James G. Rogers personally took Michael under his wings with love, guidance, and counseling.
Later he met and married the love of his life Tami S. Jones and moved to Clyo Georgia with her and her daughter Darnasia and his beloved dogs Jango and J-Lo. He loved them both and took endless care of them. Michael and Tami attended and worshipped at Union Spring Methodist Church in Clyo Georgia with Leo Burns as the church pastor.
Michael came to a place in his life where he did not make good decisions, decisions and actions that incarcerated him and made him a product of the prison system. While serving his time he became a model prisoner preaching and teaching by holding bible study groups with his fellow inmates. He had no problem talking about his past and misfortune. Every chance he had to testify he did, and every time he fell down he got back up. He didn’t leave this Earth with things harvested in his heart. He looked, walked, and talked with boldness and authority and was not afraid to speak his mind and apologize later. He was and will always be a leader never a follower.
After serving all his time in Georgia Prison System, Michael rededicated his life back to the Lord and to ministry becoming a minister of the Gospel; reaching out, ministering, teaching, and encouraging men and women who were broken and distraught. He also started his own prison ministry called “Behind Steel Walls” in which the same prison system that incarcerated him was now inviting him as a guest speaker to speak to the men and women during their graduation who were soon to be released. Michael’s prison ministry encouraged them that God gives us second chances and that there is still hope and also that you can still be redeemed and be an asset to your community no matter what bad choices you’ve made in life. He loved every minute of going back in there to share his story.
Michael’s ultimate joy and fulfillment was being a husband to Tami and a grandfather to his grandchildren. He loved spoiling and spending time with them both. They both gave him so much joy and happiness. He would always say “I don’t know how long I have on this Earth, but I’m going to enjoy every day like it’s my last”, and he did. We will truly miss him making us laugh and smile.
