Marilyn Sutton Applegate

March 26, 1937 ~ October 22, 2021

Marilyn Sutton Applegate, age 84, passed peacefully into heaven at 5 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2021, from metastatic lung cancer. Marilyn “Punk” Applegate is survived by her daughter, Jill Applegate Warbington (Danny), of Marietta, Georgia; her granddaughter, Abbey Lynn Warbington, also of Marietta, Georgia; and her many dearly loved nieces and nephews in Arkansas and North Dakota. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55+ years, Donal Gene Applegate, her parents, and her six brothers and sisters. Marilyn was born on March 26, 1937, in Saline County, Arkansas, to Claude Lafayette Sutton and Pearl Magby Sutton, and graduated from Bauxite High School in 1955. After attending Business College in Little Rock, Marilyn married Don on August 31, 1956. Don worked for ALCOA, and after living in Benton for a year, they began what was to be a career of moving on the average of every two-three years…every time he got a promotion. Marilyn was always willing to begin again in a new state, country, or continent. She even learned Portuguese to live for four years in Brazil! Marilyn was always the perfect hostess, competitive bridge player, adoring Grame, loving mother, and Don’s only “sweetheart.” She loved Mobile and Orange Beach, Alabama. She was the consummate bargain shopper and artist, which made her the perfect homemaker. Last Friday, Marilyn Applegate flew to heaven with her savior, Jesus Christ, and was happily reunited with all her brothers and sisters, parents, and her Don. She lived her favorite hymn: Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine! A graveside funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, October 27, at 10 a.m. at Southern Cremations & Funerals at Cheatham Hill. Jill will share memories and favorite scriptures. Mary Stephens Havens will sing Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus. All are welcome to join the family in celebrating Marilyn’s life well lived. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable donation to Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Marietta, GA.
