Ernest Edward Kelley

January 5, 1937 ~ March 9, 2025

Mr. Ernest Edward "Ed" Kelley of Acworth, GA, passed away on March 9, 2025, in Cumming, GA. He was born on January 5, 1937, in Boerne, Texas. Ed graduated from the University of Texas with an Aerospace Engineering degree. He worked 10 years for The Boeing Company and went on to work at Lockheed Martin in Marietta, where he worked on several planes, including B-52, C-5, and the Raptor 22. He stayed at Lockheed Martin the remainder of his professional career. Ernest loved the outdoors and traveling all over to see God's beautiful handiwork. He and his wife of 55 years, Sharon, visited several national parks, cruised The Rhine, skied in Big Bear, California, and sailed the Keys. When he ran out of places to see, he and his friends loved to get on their motorcycles and ride to Alaska and the Arctic Circle. Ed was passionate about working with Meals on Wheels and would go weekly to his clients to visit with them. One of his clients dug up and gifted him some grass plugs from their yard that grow year-round! He also was a strong man of faith and a devoted member of Hillside Church and the Fellowship Class. He loved to attend Bible studies with his church family and was dedicated to sharing his faith with anyone he could. Ed Kelley is survived by his wife Sharon Kelley; children Victor Kelley (Amanda), Shari Kizziar (Doug), and Katherine Hilleary (Mick); 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Ed's memory to Hillside Church (Journey Forward), Meals on Wheels, or Accent Inpatient Hospice Center-North GA. A special thanks to Tiki and Wanda, the CNA caregivers with Accent Inpatient Hospice who took such good care of Ed while he was there.

Guestbook

  1. Lockheed was a big part of my dad, Alan Shewmaker’s life which in turn meant all of his colleagues and their families were part of our extended family.

It was over the decades that our family interacted with the Kelley’s – from lake trips, pig pickins, shrimp boils and whatever sense of camaraderie Dad and his buddies could drum up to have fun together.

While I was a teenager and it has been decades since I last saw Ed and Sharon, your family has always held a special place in my heart.

Ed will definitely be missed – however, he has left an indelible memory on everyone, and for that I’m thankful.

I pray for the family and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

  2. Ed reminded me once that nothing is ever 100% efficient.
