Alton Franklin Brooks

On June 27, 1927, in Rayford, North Carolina, Alton Franklin Brooks was born to A.P. Brooks and Sarah Scott in Rayford, North Carolina. Alton had one older brother, Richmond Scott, one younger brother Willie Gene Scott, and younger sister, Mary Louise Scott. He was educated in the Florence, South Carolina public school system. When his older brother left home, while his mother worked to care for the family. Through this Alton learned accountability and responsibility that aided him immensely throughout his life. Over time Alton became an accomplished cook. He was employed as a cook for the railroad. He perfected his culinary skills in the U.S. Army, in which he served from February 5, 1946 through January 1, 1947, at which time he was honorably discharged. Alton continued his education after leaving the military to better prepare for life responsibilities. Shortly after leaving the military, Alton met the love of his life, Mary Jane Corbett, in Wilmington, North Carolina and they married on March 4, 1950. From this union came six children; Elaine, Audrey, Ronald, Lorrell, Sharnette, Alton Jr. He began working at working at McCormick and Company in 1965 where he worked and provided for his family until he retired in 1980. During this time, Alton learned about Jehovah from his faithful, loving wife, Mary Jane, and remained a dedicated witness of Jehovah until his death. Alton was loving, charismatic, and proficient in life skills. Loving memories of Alton will be shared and treasured by his wife, Mary Jane, his brother, Willie Gene Scott; his sister, Mary Louise Scott; his daughters, Elaine Brooks, Audrey Gentry, Lorell A. Willis, Sharnette A. Brooks and his son, Alton F. Brooks (his son Ronald E. Brooks proceeded him in death in January of 1989); 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
