Andrea Kaye Lodge

On Thursday, December 17, 2020 Andrea Kaye Lodge, Beloved Mother of 3, sister, Nana, Auntie and friend; passed away at the age of 75. Kaye was born on September 12, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida, to Catherine Verdell Trawick and Urie Josey. She grew up in New Jersey and Florida and thus started traveling at an early age. She was academically advanced. She was the valedictorian of her class at Trinity Temple SDA Church School. She attended and graduated in the top of her class from Pine Forge Academy in 1963 and penned her class song with fellow classmates, Elder Walter Pearson and actor/songwriter Clifton Davis. At the age of 16 she met the love of her life, Gilbert M. “Johnny “ Lodge Sr. in East Orange New Jersey. They were married on July 10, 1966 and moved to the beautiful Island of Bermuda. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Leighsa and Roshaun (Mark) and 2 sons, Jonathan (deceased) and Gilbert Jr (Samantha). In 1973 at the request of her dying mother, she and 3 of her siblings left their livelihoods to obtain higher education degrees at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama.There Andrea excelled finishing her 4 year course in just 3 years. She obtained a BS. degree in Accounting/Business graduating Magna Cum Laude in the top 5 students of her graduating class and received a full-scholarship to Ohio State University for Graduate School. She decided to accept an offer from Conoco Oil Co. as they were implementing a pilot program to train young black scholars in computer Science/data processing. This began her career as a systems Analyst and Project Manager in the Oil and Gas Industry and Bermuda Government – Computer Systems and Services Division. Kaye loved to travel. She lived in Bermuda, Indiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Georgia. She and Johnny traveled often to New York, Las Vegas, Jamaica, Bahamas and England. Kaye loved her family and cooking. She was known for her good home cooking sweet potato, and cassava pies. She had a heart of gold and loved to entertain, usually always with a grand theme for her soirees. Most of all she adored her role as Nana to her 10 grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter, Londyn. Andrea was deeply religious and loved music she was an accomplished soloist at an early age, music was life to her. Everywhere she lived she joined and directed choirs, singing in many groups traveling throughout the US as well as internationally. Her melodious voice can still be heard on various recordings. Andrea Kaye was preceded in death by her mother Catherine, her father Urie and beloved stepmom, Shirley. Brothers Lennard, Ronnie and Larry. sister Sharon, and her loving husband Johnny (Gilbert Sr.). She has one remaining maternal Uncle, Jerry Trawick (Janet). and 1 paternal Uncle, Bishop Lennard Josey. She is survived by her 3 children: Roshaun, Leighsa, Gilbert Jr and her brothers Dexter (Cherry), Albert (Marcie), Urie Jerome, Reginald (Delores), and sisters Felicia and Pamela (Earl). She leaves to mourn her grandsons; Tahj, Jourdyn, Taahir, Shaun, Amahnde, Ajahni, Amari, Alijah, Aaron and Akeem; and a new great granddaughter Londyn Monroe. A brother in Law, Dennis, “Tim” Lodge (Hazel) and Bernette Cann (Graham, deceased). A host of cousins, nieces, nephews, god-children and friends. She also leaves to mourn her 2 lifetime best friends, her “sisters” – LaGloria Pierre “Glo”, & Margo Cannonier-Singleton.
