Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Anne Marie Jenkins, age 83, was mercifully raised up on eagle's wings after enduring a long illness on December 18, 2020. She is survived by her beloved and deeply devoted only son, Paul L. Jenkins of Mableton, Georgia. She also had three loving step-daughters: Kathleen Cantone of Abington, Mass, Paula Tufo of Hudson, Mass, and Linda Hoffman of Hilton Head, SC. Born and raised in the city of Boston, and later living in Brockton for many years, Anne was a resident of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 81 of her 83 years. The daughter of Philip Bonner, an immigrant of Donegal, Ireland, and his wife Margaret Deichan, Anne was the youngest of a large traditional Irish Catholic family, sharing a modest childhood home with eight older brothers and one older sister. When her mother was in ill health, Anne was the one child who stepped up to take care of her. She also became a dedicated caretaker to both a disabled brother and aunt.
Throughout her life, Anne always credited God as her constant source of strength and inspired both faith and humility in all who had the privilege of being truly close to her. She unfailingly placed others above self---whether they were family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors, or even an animal in need of rescue. She is remembered as a devoted wife who, even to the point of death, never once removed the wedding and engagement rings given by the only man who had ever held her heart: her husband of more than 20 years, the late Paul F. Jenkins, who passed away in 1991. She will also be forever remembered as an adoring mother who, some might say, followed her son to college, taking a job in the cafeteria as a food service worker in 1992, the same year her son became a freshman. Being surrounded by co-workers she cherished and the constant laughter of young people was something of a tonic to her soul. It was a job she wouldn't give up until 2018, when circumstances necessitated her relocation from Massachusetts to Georgia. Generations of Stonehill College students will fondly recall the approachable, humorous, and ever compassionate cashier they knew as "Annie," who made sure that every hungry kid could eat, even if he or she had exhausted their monthly food vouchers.
In her final two years before journeying to heaven, Anne's son felt privileged to lovingly care for her and give her the greatest quality of life imaginable throughout her many health struggles. She was strong, tough, and loving through the most difficult of days----true to the characteristics that made her who she was to the very end. A Mass and burial service will be announced in the Spring of 2021. At that time, Anne's remains will be buried at Bourne National Cemetery alongside those of her late husband. En lieu of flowers, please send generous donations on Ms. Jenkins's behalf to the American Liver Foundation at 39 Broadway, New York, NY 10006.
