Barbara Joan Peterson

Barbara Joan Hollonquest Peterson died from cardiac arrest on September 12th in Marietta, Georgia. There are two memorial services planned. The first will be held at Lavenia and Summers Home for Funerals, 5811 E 39th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46218, on September 29th at 3:00 PM. The second service will be October 13th starting at 3:00 PM at Northwest Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 1025 Mount Vernon Highway Northwest, Sandy Springs, GA 30327. Barbara will be buried in Indianapolis, Indiana. Barber was born on June 6, 1951 in Elmore County near the city of Wetumpka, Alabama. Her parents were Clifton and Agnes Bozeman Hollonquest. She was raised partly in Alabama and partly in Indianapolis, Indiana. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from Purdue University and then a law degree from Northwestern University with a concentration in Tax law. She was married to William Theodore Peterson on March 28, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has worked in the corporate world, first in Chicago, Illinois then in in Evansville, Indiana and lastly in Atlanta, Georgia. She received an award for chairing one of the insurance trade associations in 2011. She volunteered since retiring in 2015 including serving on the board of directors at our church and helping out with the Boy Scouts of America in an underprivileged neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia. Barbara loved dogs and raised three rescue dogs from puppyhood to maturity, Duke who lived to be 15, Dakota about 10. We adopted Romeo in 2009 and he is still a healthy but mischievous dog at age 10. The association for the prevention of cruelty to animals was her favorite charity to support. She also made occasional contributions to the Alliance Theater, the Southwest Atlanta Arts Alliance, the Shakespeare Tavern, and the High Museum of Arts. She is survived by her husband Bill, sisters Nell and Tina, brothers Gerry and Daryl, step children Zenaida and Zephaniah and many loving nieces nephews and friends.
