Cecilia Mae Goddard Griffin, age 71, passed away on Friday, May 18th, 2018, in Hiram, Georgia. She was born in Edmonton, Canada; claiming dual citizenship.
Cecilia will be lovingly remembered by her son John Charles Griffin (Hiram, GA); her sister-in-law Yvonne Gore and husband Jimmy (Douglasville, GA), brother-in-law Tom Griffin (Denver, CO), sister-in-law, Susan Laws and husband Mark (Grayson, GA), sister-in-law Teresa Bragg (Temple, GA), sister-in-law Karen Oxford and husband Robert (Lithia Springs, GA) and brother-in-law Tony Griffin (Douglasville, GA).
She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, throughout the United States. She was preceded in death by her companion of many years, John Cecil Griffin and her parents, Cecil and Wilma McGlone Goddard.
As an only child, Cecilia had an adventurous spirit. She worked as a key employee for the US Army, Center for Disease Control and other US Government organizations. Her family would often joke about her whereabouts, asking her what “istan” country was she in that day, while serving in her capacity as a civilian liaison for several joint United States and international programs.
Cecilia loved life and loved traveling! She traveled the world, as recently as last month to Italy. She especially loved Ireland and Europe.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 12:00 pm to 2:00pm at the Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Columbarium, 1861 Dallas Highway SW, Marietta, Georgia, 30064. Funeral Services will be immediately following at 2:00 pm.
Interment will be at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park, 1861 Dallas Highway SW, Marietta, Georgia, 30064.

I really hate to hear of Celilia’s passing. She was such a fun loving and vibrant person. I remember her planning my graduation cruise and was so excited to have found a two-for-one special, thus saving us a lot of money! Although she’s resting with God, my heart aches for the family and friends she leaves behind.

So shocked to learn of her passing. I will never forget all of our wonderful travels around the globe. Cecilia was always willing to go on a trip to anywhere we wanted to go from staying in castles in Ireland learning a little French to communicate in Quebec, enjoying the nightlife in New Orleans, taking pictures with the Atlanta Braves World Series Team during spring training, Disney World, taking a helicopter ride over Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii, enjoying the snorkeling in Cancun and so many more amazing trips to mention. Since she left CDC, we have not had the travel club, “Travel Bugs”. Her kindness, generosity, friendship and love meant so much to me. My prayers go out to the best son she could have ever asked for, Chuck! I know she is now resting peacefully in the arms of our Lord. We believe so we have the faith in knowing we will someday see her again. God bless.
