Charles Emory Powell (Charlie) of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 3:12 am at Tranquility @Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, Georgia at the age of 77 comforted by his wife, Carolyn Powell, his sons Greg Powell and Gabriel Howerton.
Born January 26, 1939 in Jacksonville, Florida to parents Russell Underwood Powell and Jeanette Evelyn Wiley Powell and older brother Russell Powell survived by three sons, 2 stepsons, one stepdaughter, eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Charlie loved the Lord and his church home at Open Bible Tabernacle. He served as youth pastor for a few years and led many people to Jesus after being saved by his late Senior Pastor and Mentor Brother Eugene Holder.
Charlie adored his wife, Carolyn Powell and loved spending time with his family. Charlie cherished his service in the United States Navy and served on the USS Yorktown for four years. Transferred to the Navy reserve for two years.
He loved to entertain others with his stories of being in the Navy. He was a storyteller and loved to make everyone laugh. Everyone who knew Charlie knew he was a fan of football and his favorite team was Georgia Tech. He was almost always wearing his Georgia Tech hat or t-shirts.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 14, 2016 at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Columbarium, 1861 Dallas Highway, Marietta, Georgia 30064. Family visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Guests and Friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
The Funeral Service will be held at Open Bible Tabernacle, 545 Lorene Drive, Marietta, Georgia 30060 at 3:00 pm, Monday, November 14, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to 720 Elk Cove Court, Kennesaw, Georgia 30144.
