Charles Starkey Roach passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012 from complications of Alzheimer's. Starkey was born April 23, 1920 in Jackson County, Alabama to the late Myron L. and Fannie Sanders Roach. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Henderson Roach and his son Sid Roach of McDonough, Georgia. His wife Dell Grice Roach of 52 years, his 22 year old son Roger Roach and his brother Calvin, age 12, were deceased when he passed. Starkey is further survived by Sid's wife, Jillian Roach, who played a loving and active role in his final four years care, and Carl and Gena Henderson, his stepson and stepdaughter. Roy Lynn Roach of Mobile, Alabama and WC Roach of Jackson County, Alabama are his surviving brothers. Myra Jean Garner of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Frances Worley and Evelyn of Scottsboro, Alabama are his surviving sisters. Scottie and Brad Roach are his grandchildren living in Long Beach, California, along with his great-grandchildren Samantha and Marshall Morgan. Vesta Ann Owen of Delray Beach, Florida and W.A. Grice of Defuniak, Florida are his surviving in-laws. Mr. Roach enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps(later the United States Air Force) and honorably served as a Master Sergeant for 27 years. After his Air Force retirement, he worked for 10 years with the Walton County School System as an HVAC mechanic. Starkey was a faithful member and long-time deacon of the First Baptist Church of Defuniak. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his great sense of humor and companionship. Interment for Mr. Charles Starkey Roach will be Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Magnolia Cemetery in Defuniak, Florida.
