Charlotte Dianne Stykes

June 25, 1939 ~ July 24, 2016

Charlotte Dianne Stykes went to be with her savior July 24, 2016. She was born in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, on June 25, 1939. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Robert Keith Stykes, and her parents, Edward Axel Scott and Florence Geneva Gulrud. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Chuck Scott (Joyce) of Fargo, North Dakota and her daughters and their husbands: Ahna Maria Chastain (Mark), Rebecca Jo Kelley (Alan), and Jennifer Leigh Walczak (Matt), as well as grandchildren Kyle (Kiley), Kayleigh, Heather, Sarah, Emory, Josh, Carleigh and Maddy. Charlotte graduated from Minot State Teacher's College in North Dakota on a Friday in 1959. Her teaching career began the following Monday in Bowbells, North Dakota. Her love of travel led her to Washington State where she was working as a teacher when she met and married the love of her life, Robert Stykes. Although the navy sent the Stykes family back and forth across the United States several times, Charlotte's friendly smile, wonderful sense of humor and genuine love of people made the upheaval of military life much easier. She truly never met a stranger. Always a teacher at heart, Charlotte taught many children throughout the course of her more than 30 years in education. Her genuine affection for all people kept her involved in the Cobb-Marietta Retired Teachers Association, Quilters for Christ, Red Cross blood drives at her church, and the water aerobics group from WellStar's Health Place that she enjoyed meeting for lunch even when she was unable to exercise. She was a member of First United Lutheran Church in Kennesaw, Georgia for more than 30 years. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 5-7 P.M. and a service to celebrate her life will be held Friday at 1:00. Both will be held at Southern Crematory and Funerals Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Columbarium, 1861 Dallas Hwy SW, Marietta, GA 30064. Following the service, burial will be held at the Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital, or First United Lutheran Church, 3481 Campus Loop Rd, Kennesaw, GA 30144.
