Chinelo Uzoamaka Nkemena

November 1, 1956 ~ February 11, 2019

BIOGRAPHY EARLY LIFE: Barr. Chinelo Uzoamaka Nkemena Amobi was the last out of 5 children of Late Hon Justice G C Nkemena and Late Mrs LOV Nkemena both from Obosi in Anambra State of Nigeria. Born on November 01, 1956, she was brought up in a home where strong morals and christian teachings were both foundation and bedrock. Both of her parents were born of clergy men - Late Bishop S. M.Nkemena, her paternal grandfather was the first indigenous Bishop of the Niger diocese while Rev. Isaac Ejindu, her maternal grandfather was one of the earliest missionaries/evangelists in Igboland especially in the Enugu Ngwo area of Enugu State. Chinelo - fondly called Nellie by her siblings and friends was literally born with a silver spoon in her mouth! Herself and her older sister Adora being the last two and only girls in the family, were doted on by their parents - particularly their father who gave so much of his time and resources towards the upbringing of his children. As one of the few judges in Nigeria of the early 1960s, often on tours always insisted on traveling with his 2 daughters as young as they were at the time...(lodging in catering Guest Houses and having the ball of their lives)! EDUCATION: Chinelo went to the best private schools available at that time. Her father spared no expense to ensure his daughters received quality education, he sent them to primary schools where classrooms were airconditioned for comfort & effective learning. Indeed, he was often happy to declare that he deliberately put his daughters in 'high brow' expensive primary schools where he paid three times more for each of them than he paid for the 3 boys put together in Govt college, Umuahia. He believed ladies be brought up as ladies! She started kindergarten at the tender age of two because she simply would not be left at home while her older sister Adora went to school She attended All Saints Primary School Enugu in 1961-1965; Calabar Nursery and Junior School in 1965, St Nicholas Port Harcourt in 1966 and finished her primary education at Owerri Township School in 1967. The Civil War interrupted her education for 2yrs, however she graduated with Grade1 (O’levels) from the prestigious Queens School Enugu in 1974. Thereafter, she obtained admission into the University of Nigeria Enugu campus in September 1975 where she studied Law. Upon graduation she attended The Nigerian Law School, passed the Bar Exams and was admitted into The Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1981. WORK LIFE: Right after her mandatory NYSC program in 1983, she was employed by African Continental Bank(ACB). Few months later, Chinelo was hired by Manny Bank (Manufacturers Merchant Bank) where she worked in the Legal Department. First African Trust Bank(FATB) was her next place of employment where she was the head of the Legal Dept and by sheer dint of hard work she later became the General Manager of the bank. Her outstanding performance while in the Bank was widely acknowledged. After her marriage in 1993,she resigned her job and relocated to the United States with her husband. HER LIFE &TIMES : Chinelo’s marriage to Mr ifeanyi Amobi was blessed with 2 miraculous & wonderful children - Buniechukwu (Buni) and Somtochukwu (Soso) Amobi after many years. This was in spite of the United States doctors’ report that she would never be able to bear children. A few months later God graciously over ruled and gave her a son and then a daughter, the very next year. Chinelo was naturally open & outspoken, never hesitating to speak her mind. Although she had a stern voice, she had a heart of gold. She gave of herself & her resources. Many got jobs & opportunities through her influence. She was the consummate hostess always going out of her way to ensure the comfort & ease of people around her. Nelly loved her God and her Church The King's Court Chapel, Atlanta with a passion. It was her relationship with Christ that was her Anchor & Rest in her final days. Her longing to be with Him surpassed the pull of this ephemeral space. On Feb. 11th 2019, Nelly quietly laid aside her earthly garment & stepped into glory. She will be greatly missed!
