Cynthia “Granny” Diane Lee, 65, of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019 at her residence. Born in Atlanta on March 19, 1954, she was the daughter of James W. Lee, Sr. and the late Katherine Elizabeth (Flowers) Lee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John B. Payne; her sister, Valerie Lee Crimmins; and her brothers, James “Rusty” W. Lee, Jr. and Jeffery K. Lee.
Cynthia was married to the late John Payne who was a Vietnam veteran. She was in the process of having John posthumously awarded the Bronze Star. Cynthia was very proud of his accomplishments and wanted John to be recognized for them. She loved John and missed him until the day she took her last breath.
Anyone who knew Cindy knew that she had a special love for animals. Especially cats. Cindy loved all animals, and one of her favorite past times was to sit outside and feed the squirrels and chipmunks. She had so many funny stories to share about them. Cindy also had a dog named Prince. They had such a love for each other, and he followed every step she made.
Cindy also had such a great sense of humor. She was very clever and had such a sharp wit. Her family and friends treasure her funny and uplifting texts.
Cynthia is survived by her father, James W. Lee, Sr.; her daughter, Ashley Fowler; her brother, James “Danny” Lee; her sister, Lisa Howell; her grandson, Tyler Timothy Barr; her granddaughter, Amelia Barr; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Columbarium at Southern Cremations & Funerals, 1861 Dallas Hwy., Marietta, GA 30064. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. with longtime family friend and pastor Rev. Kirk Bridgers and longtime friend Apostle Vivian Dennis officiating. Immediately following the service, there will be a small reception in the Columbarium for family and friends.
Burial at will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, 722 Conley Rd., Forest Park, GA 30297.
