Debra L. McAtee

August 28, 1957 ~ June 10, 2021

Debra L. McAtee, age 63, passed away suddenly on Thursday June 10th, 2021 at 5:56pm. Debra L. McAtee is survived by her Mother- Karen Werner. Brothers- Mark Bayer, David Werner, Kent Werner and their families. Sons- Michael and Joseph McAtee. Daughters- Chrissy Mitchell and Kaitlyn Jongema. Daughter-in-law Stephanie A. McAtee and Son-in-law Austin Jongema. As well as all her Grand Children, Michael Jr., Brayden McAtee, Jacob Mitchell, Jackson McAtee, Jameson, Brantley and Kalleigh Jongema. Also, Granddaughter in-law Breanna McAtee. Debby is preceded in death by her Husband- John C. McAtee, Father- Ervin Fredrick Bayer, Step-Father- Bernie Werner, and Son- John C. McAtee Jr. Debby was a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, and when put into a tough situation, she handled it with firm and gentle hands. When her Husband, Jack, had several strokes, her integrity and faith never wavered. She spent every waking moment ensuring her husband was comfortable, and loved. He passed peacefully in his sleep, comfortable and loved, by the woman who stayed by his side for 50 years of marriage during the better, and through the worst. Debby gave much of her time, later in life, to cooking dinner to gather her family. Because nothing would put a larger smile on her face than when her family was together, except for baby’s. It was amazing to see the way that her cheeks grew when she saw a child, and it was nothing less than beautiful, for the light in her eyes was stunning. For those children she enjoyed sewing blankets, pillows and costumes. To find time for herself, she took time to clear her thoughts while mending clothing with care for her loved ones. While she took care of her entire family, she spent special time for her Girls. She would go to JCpenney, Target, and GoodWill to find gorgeous jewelry to not just give them, but to wear with them. As she is buried today, she and her girls are wearing the Tree of Life around their neck. A necklace that her and her Girls will have, wear, and remember her by for the rest of their lives. Debby achieved a higher education with a bachelor's degree in Phlebotomy. She utilized that degree as a Registered Nurse at Kennestone Hospital in Kennesaw Georgia. Debby was known amongst her peers and patients as the “Butterfly Lady.” This nickname came about due to the gentle butterfly clip that she would wear in her hair. When she would perform her skills, she would do so in a way that made the moment pass with ease for the patent, and the patent would focus solely on her butterfly hair clip. She made an impression on patients with that gentle clip for over 30 years. A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday June 16th, 2021 from 11am to 1pm with a reception to be determined.
