McDonough Southern Cremations & Funerals
De’Yolanda Pandora (Pam) Lowery graced the world and her parents Leo Michael and Barbara McCorkle Lowery with her presence on November 9, 1964, at about 7:20 am in New Orleans, Louisiana. With a personality bubbling with joy, she was a happy, sweet, always hungry, and extremely demanding little tot; at the heart of all of this she was a true mama’s girl. Make no mistake she loved her father, but it was her mother whom she would call a minimum of three times on any given day, every day of the week.
De’Yolanda started her educational journey at Martinez for Pre-K, she attended elementary school at St. Rose de’Lima, graduated High School from L.W. Higgins, and went on to complete three years of higher education at the University of New Orleans, all in the city of New Orleans. She also did a stint in the United States Air Force. De’Yolanda decided to embark upon a change of pace when her sister Mary asked her to move to Atlanta to help with her eldest son. It was that move that caused her to make Atlanta her home of roughly thirty-one years.
Her Atlanta experience gave her the opportunity to work for several local establishments. Over the years she worked for the Westin Hotel, Publix, DeKalb Fire Department, Emory University, Georgia State University, City of Atlanta, and DeKalb County Watershed on two occasions where her professional career has come to an end. While on this voyage, De’Yolanda found a place of solace for her spirit at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. It was here that she grew in her faith and her walk with God. She made it very clear to everyone and anyone that she loved her Pastor, Bishop Eddie Long and her New Birth Church Family.
If we must speak of things that she loved, we cannot leave out her passion toward the New Orleans Saints or her favorite artists Luther Vandross and Prince. She was an avid reader, some of her favorite authors included Danielle Steel, Toni Morrison, and Eric Jerome Dickey. Some may not have known she had a bit of a green thumb and really loved gardening. One more love was her three dogs; Barbie, Pocky and Bandi; who passed away during her hospital stay.
On September 17, 2019, around 11:20 pm at Emory University Hospital, De’Yolanda, very gently, exhaled for the last time as she was surrounded by family and friends. De’Yolanda, leaves behind to reminisce through tears, smiles, and sometimes moments of sadness her beloved and only son Joshua Jamal Jackson of Ohio; her devoted parents Leo Michael and Barbara McCorkle Lowery of Louisiana; her dear sister Cindy Ann Marie Lowery (Jerome) Sayles of Maryland; her sister Mary Jacobs (Earl) Oubre of Georgia; nephews Andre Sobalvarro of Texas, Jeromy Sayles of Maryland; Chad and Ryan Oubre of Georgia; and her only niece Christina Sayles of Maryland. She also leaves behind 7 uncles and 3 aunts, 1 grand-niece, 1 grand-nephew, a number of cousins, friends, and best friends Osaria Thomas and Tonya Wolcock, her New Birth Church family, co-workers of DeKalb County Watershed, and her neighbor Patricia Upshaw all whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in her new life by her grandparents: Margie and Jessie Jacobs McCorkle, Lionel and Martha Jenkins Lowery (step-grandmother Lucille), 5 uncles and 4 aunts.
