Douglas L Boling, age 89, of Marietta GA passed away at Tranquility Hospice at Cobb Hospital on Friday June 19, 2020 (Father’s Day weekend). Born on February 25, 1931 in Bismarck North Dakota to Irv and Carrie Boling, he had an older sister Geraldine who passed away before him. Doug played several high school sports and semipro baseball in McCluskey before entering North Dakota State University and receiving a degree in education. While in college he enrolled in ROTC and upon graduation became an officer in the US Army, Infantry branch. He married his wife Connie on December 28, 1953 at St Marys Cathedral in Fargo North Dakota.
Doug served in US Army for 28 years, retiring with rank of colonel. He served two tours in Vietnam before retiring from military service in 1982. He took a job as Regional Sales Director of Baskin Robbins Ice Cream in southeast United States before retiring again. He and wife Connie lived in Marietta Georgia since 1982. Active in his church serving on various committees of finance and planning, he held the position of Eucharistic minister at Catholic Church of St Ann at time of his passing.
He is survived by his wife, Connie, to whom he was happily married for 66 years. They have six children: Steve (St Augustine FL), Jeff (Houston TX), Dave (Charlottesville VA), Rich (Norcross GA), Kathy (Charlotte NC), and Mike (San Diego CA); Seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Patrick, Kelli, Ben, Sara, Sydelle, and Robert; Five great grandchildren: Hannah, Sam, Isaac, Eliana, and Rosalyn.
A private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Ann Catholic Church on Wednesday June 24, 2020. He will be laid to rest at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery following the Mass.
