  1. Don’t Ever, Ever, Ever Go In Her Tote Bag!!!Well, my youngest daughter, Ariel learned this lesson first-hand. Ariel was about 1 year old and grandmom left her tote bag beside her chair while she went to the bathroom (this took place in my parent’s Clairmont Road house in Philly). While grandmom was in the bathroom, Ariel had sat down on the floor next to her tote bag and took everything out of it and sat it on the floor next to the bag. As grandmom came downstairs, she saw Ariel in action and she scolded “You little helfer, if you ever go in my bag again, I’ll ring your little neck.”

  2. Deloris Anderson Berry says:

Don’t Get Her Name Twisted!!!My mom always wanted her name to be pronounced as it was spelled which is Emma Lee (two separate names), however, the staff at the day center that she attended prior to her health declining, insisted on calling her Emily. If she was acknowledged as Emily or Ms. Anderson, she would ignore the staff. However, when they called her name as Emma Lee, she would promptly stand up with her hands on her hips and say Emma Lee is my name. After that the old staff told the new staff to address her accordingly. It had gotten to the point where they started to tease her about her name. Then one day they asked her what her name was and she stood up and replied “My name is Puddin and Tang….ask me again and I’ll tell you the same”. So as the new staff came on board, they started to call her Ms. Puddin, as that was the only way they could keep it straight.

  3. The Blueberry Farm!!One last thing Lulu, after reading cousin Mae’s blueberry farm story, it made me think back to when you used to take us (your grandchildren) to the blueberry farm with you. You would have two big empty coffee cans (one tied to each hip). You were a blueberry picking pro. And we would always have potted meat and crackers and boiled eggs for lunch (which I don’t care for too much to this day). We had to be at the bus by the crack of dawn (literally). And you would always tell us that whatever we picked, would be our own pay. After we were done picking for the day, we would always stop at the General Merchandise Store on the way home and I would always make sure that I picked enough blueberries to buy my favorite snacks which were: a pint of Hershey’s vanilla ice cream and a pickled pigs feet. I also remember when you pierced my ears while I sat on that infamous little rectangle wooden stool. I also remember when we had to take turns giving you what is now known as a “pedicure”. Oh God, Lulu, I miss you so, so, much. Every day when I wake up, I go upstairs to your room and tell you hello and good morning just as I did when you were still here, even though, in my mind you are still here. Don’t worry, I will think of some more stories to share. Love you and goodnight.

  4. Grandmom Didn’t Take No Mess!Hello again Lulu (as I have fondly named her during her final days): I remember when Angelique and I used to stay at your house for the summer on Pierce Drive in Tasker Projects and we would slide across the floor on blankets as if we were riding sleds in the snow. One particular night we remember is when there was a man who was attempting to break in your house. He put his arm in the window and you told us to get that “black billy-club stick” that you used to keep in between the sofa pillows and you commenced to beating that man’s arm to death with that stick. Of course, Angelique and I were shaking like to leaves on a tree, hiding behind a chair. One thing for sure, no one else ever tried to break in. I also remember when you would send us to the store to buy your “PEACH SNUFF”. Sometimes we had to tote a paper-bag full of pennies just to buy it. I also remember when myself, Kandy and Angelique would fight over who would get to lick the cake bowl. Lulu, I love you so much and I always have and I always will. I am so thankful for the precious and special time that God allowed us to share from the first day you came to live with us, 15+ years ago. I am so grateful that I was there with you during your final days as well. Sometimes, I still tell myself that I have to change the water in your oxygen machine. I miss you more than you will ever know. Until we meet again, your granddaughter, Linda.

  5. Mae Ragland (Johnniemae) says:

The Love She Had For UsAntee had a remedy for everything under the sun. I remember the summers I stayed at her house on Perce St., the blueberry farm and getting sick eating more blueberries than I put in the containers. The next day Antee lined all of us Danny, Loise, Brother, Elaine and me she got the biggest spoon I have ever saw and filled it up with cod live oil and one by one made us drink a spoon full each. Back then we were healthy childrens. With loving memories. Mae Ragland of Philadelphia

  7. Deloris Anderson Berry says:

Mama This message is from your youngest daughter Deloris. Mama you were everything to me that a daughter could ever hope for in a parent. You were always there when I needed a helping hand or just a shoulder to cry on. You assured me through childhood adolesence which was a very difficult time in my life. It was because of your nurturing spirit you helped me develop into the devoted Wife, caring Mother, and loving grandmother that I consider myself to be today. Mama you instilled something special into each one of your children from the Oldest to the youngest in your own special way, that will last for the rest of our lives and I will always love you for that. Mama the family is distant right now due to differences of opinions. This period in time brings to mind when we were little kids arguing or fighting among ourselves with tears running down our faces, and both You And Daddy would say (Stop that fighting and hug and Kiss one another)smile.. Mama I could go on and on as I go back in time but I realize that I will have to lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from which cometh my help and my help will come from the Lord. Mama may you rest in peace until we all meet with Brother and Daddy in that great getting up morning. Love you today, yesterday and even more tomorrow. Your Youngest daughter, Deloris
