Florence "Jamie" Margrabia Kent

October 9, 1955 ~ October 9, 2018

Florence (Jamie) Margrabia Kent passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. Originally from Plantation, Florida, Mrs. Kent taught at Floyd Middle School in Cobb County for the entirety of her 38-year career as a science teacher. She was an avid gem and mineral enthusiast and a member of the Cobb County Gem and Mineral Society. As an alumna of the University of Florida and a lifelong fan of their athletic programs, “Go Gators!” was a favorite phrase of hers, and there was always a gator or some kind of UF memorabilia to be found nearby. She was a lifelong member of and longtime troop leader for the Girl Scouts of the USA, providing years of volunteer service within her community. Always an animal lover, she rescued countless animals that would become beloved family pets. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, John of Dallas, GA and children Sierra (Towery) of Reidsville, GA, and Graham of Dallas, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to one of Mrs. Kent’s favorite charities, the ASPCA, the Humane Society, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Visitation for Jamie will be Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Southern Cremations & Funerals in Marietta, GA from 12pm-2pm

  1. Mrs. Margrabia was my 6th grade Science teacher at Floyd in 1981-82. I absolutely loved her! She is the kind of teacher that you never forget. My prayers for God’s peace and comfort go up for her dear family. Please know what a difference she made in my life!

  2. Sierra (and John), I just recently found out about Jamie. I’m so sorry for your loss. I taught with her at Floyd Middle School 1978-1984 and we were roommates for 1-2 years. Although we lost touch over the years, I still have fond memories of her. I will keep you in my thought and pr

  3. Jamie was a wonderful person with a great personality. I worked with her for 2 years at Flloyd Middle School. She and I and another Teacher (Marlene) want on a day trip to Doloniga. We called it Go for the gold and even had t-shirts made. I found a small piece of gold and gave it to Jamie who made a small necklace with it. It was the most fun I had in Atlanta
