On Wednesday April 1, 2020 Frances Smith, loving mother, grandmother and friend passed away at the age of 76. Fran was born on July 9th 1943 in Chelsea, Massachusetts. In 1976 Fran moved to Florida until 2009 when she moved and settled in Douglasville, GA. to be close to her family
Fran is survived by her three daughters Robin Smith of Newnan, GA. Sharon Blok of Marietta, GA and Leigh LaCorcia of Everett, MA, her grandchildren Joshua, Derek, Charlie, Justin and Isabella. She was preceded in death by her son DJ and her daughter Melanie Owen.
Fran had a large extended family that she loved and cherished. Her church family at Liberty Baptist Church who lovingly nicknamed her “Boston” she loved to sing in the choir, attend Sunday school and bible study. She also earned the name of “Mama Bear” with her motor cycle group Broken Chains, she was so proud to earn her vest and patches that she wore proudly while enjoying being a passenger on her best friend and surrogate daughter Stephanie Scotts motorcycle. Fran spent her last days riding with her friends in the Harley Davidson Blessing of the Bike and day of Faith. Fran also found family with her Celebrate Recovery “CR” group, Circle of Friends and her bingo gals. She was so proud to be welcomed into these groups and to have made so many loving friends and memories.
Fran (Nana) loved her grandchildren more than anything, she loved watching her granddaughter Isabella dance, and even though she lived far away from her she never missed a dance recital or birthday for the past 17 years.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 11, 2020 at Southern Cremations and Funeral in Marietta, GA. Visiting hours are 2:00-4:00 a private service will begin at 4:00pm. Due to the unfortunate circumstances of Covid-19 visitation is limited to 10 people in the building at a time, if you wish to visit everyone is welcome but please understand the strict policies we are bound to for the safety of family and friends. Graveside service is limited to only 10 therefore it will be private. A celebration of life for Fran will be scheduled at a later date for all of her family and friends.
