George J. Bodirnea

May 24, 1948 ~ October 9, 2026

Born in: Salem, Ohio
Resided in: Atlanta, Georgia

George Bodirnea, 78, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026. He was born on May 24, 1948, in Salem, Ohio, to George and Helen Bodirnea.

George worked as a machinist for Piedmont Airlines, which later became US Airways and then American Airlines. He was the kind of dad who could fix anything, and he was happiest tinkering on his car or his motorcycle. He was a goofy, fun-loving jokester who never missed a chance to make his family laugh, and he doted on his daughter.

George found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved watching NASCAR, he always had a healthy appetite, and he enjoyed a good meal as much as anyone. Above all, he was happiest at home with his family. In later years, he faced Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and he was surrounded by love and care throughout.

George is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley; his daughter, Adrienne, and her husband, John. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in George’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or to Respite Care Atlanta (respitecareatlanta.org).
