George Edward Ransom George Edward Ransom, 90, passed peacefully on May 8, 2005. Affectionately known as "Uncle Red" by his family and friends, he will be fondly remembered for his feisty yet selfless nature, desire to always put the needs of others ahead of his own, and love of life and the Lord. Early in life, he started driving rigs as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which lead to his career as a professional driver. He proudly recalled the days of hauling the heavy equipment utilized while building the first road to the summit of Brasstown Bald. His consummate handyman skills were frequently used for the good of others. He also enjoyed working with the earth tending to his bountiful garden. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church and set a Christian example to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Ransom of Marietta, GA; son Ronald and Dorothy Ransom of Norcross, GA (grandchildren Rachel Ransom of Alpharetta, GA and Denise and Michael Grabowski of Savannah, GA); nephew Kenneth and Shirley Ransom of Tallapoosa, GA; nieces Patricia Davis of Braselton, GA, Teresa and Andy Samples of College Park, GA, and Retha Bright of Douglasville, GA. He is also survived by Gwendolyn's son, Michael Ransom of Villa Rica, GA, and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 11 at 1 PM at Holly Hill Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Crest Lawn Memorial Park. Pastor C.A. Jernigan, Th.D. officiated.
