Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Ms. Halima D Scott-Gomes Dayugar passed unexpectedly at her Marietta home on May 23, 2020 at the age of 51. She was born on February 12, 1969 in Providence, RI to fathers Thomas Scott (deceased) and Norman Gomes, and mother Aliyyah Matthews (formerly Victoria Epps). And additionally, parented by father Dannie Matthews and mother Karen Scott through her years.
For several years, Halima worked for the public transportation department at the Central Falls School System in Rhode Island. In 2018, her brother Curtis encouraged her to move from Rhode Island to Georgia in pursuit of a better life for her and her son. While in Marietta, Halima worked as a special needs bus driver for the Cobb County School System’s public transportation department. This decision held a special place in her heart because her first child, Brian, whom she adopted is special needs. She also helped and supported her brother Curtis through volunteering in the Marietta Youth Football League and Cobb County Parks & Recreation by transporting supplies, taking kids to their games, and helping to set up for their games.
Halima was a unique soul that cared so much about family unity and togetherness. She is the one that stayed connected and was known to keep calling and texting you until you answer her. She was tough and resilient in the life she had and was the biggest advocate for her children in the end. She was successful in making a new life for herself and her son by grinding while she was here. In childhood, Halima taught Curtis everything she knew when she grew up and he is thankful because those lessons shaped him into the man he is today. Everything he does is because his big sis pushed him first which is why it was so easy to have her back no matter what.
Halima is survived by brothers and sisters (Scott) and (Gomes), and leaves to cherish her memory sons, Lawrence Dayugar (Marietta, GA) and Brian Scott-Gomes (N. Providence, RI); brothers Curtis Scott (Marietta, GA) and Jamal Scott (Centralia Falls, WA); sisters Adria Scott (Phoenix, AZ) and Alexandra Scott (Yellow Springs, OH); nieces Kendallyn Hinton and Synclaire Scott (Mansfield, OH) and Londyn Scott (Marietta, GA); nephews Lyle Scott (Mansfield, OH), Donovan Scott and Daylin Scott (Columbus, OH), Jaylan Scott and Kylon Scott (Marietta, GA) and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends that loved her very much.

I don’t think there was ever a time that I had seen Halima where she didn’t have a smile on her face the world will truly miss her
She was a very nice person. The first time her you will be missed
Cousin Lee (Halima) was close to my two daughters Lee-Lee, and Cissy. She would verbally fight for them if anyone acted out. Years later she was a babysitter for my two younger children Kay-Leah and Abraham. Cousin Lee would have sleep-overs at her apartment so she’d gather them up along with other little cousins who were children of both Lee-Lee and Cissy. I recall the day when Cousin Lee told me that she planned to foster an infant. She was so excited. Cousin Lee loved that baby despite some challenges he possessed. She adopted Brian and dealt with each challenge head on. A few years later Cousin Lee shared her good news about the upcoming birth of her youngest son Lawrence. She was always very involved in her children’s lives. Cousin Lee loved my mother who was her grand aunt, Aunt Millie and called her quite often. She affectionately called my mom “Aunt Nanny”. Cousin Lee was a no nonsense yet loving woman. She was always passionate and true to her beliefs. We know the depth of Cousin Lee’s love for family. The absence of her presence has deeply and profoundly left a void.
Some of nyy fondest memories of Halima are when she was a little girl. Gallons was born with instinct tui care for ger brothers and sister. Curtis was a newborn and was crying in his crib, she went in, climbed up the crib, picked him up and jumped down. When I got tui the room she was holding him. When her baby sister, Adria (Toy) was crying in her crib, she climb up, picked her up and out her in the infant seat. Then she put Toy’s t thumb in her mouth. After that she would go back to bed. I miss her deeply.
Her family from Ohio sends their condolences to Halima sons and the family. We’re going to miss her and the love she had for everyone.
