Harry Jan van der Slooten

Mr. Harry (Hans) Jan van der Slooten, age 91, of Canton, Georgia, passed away on Friday March 9, 2018. Mr. van der Slooten was a native of Bennekom, The Netherlands. He worked most of his professional life with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), an agency of the United Nations. He made numerous contributions to forestry and the conservation of tropical forests in countries like Indonesia, Costa Rica, and Brazil, where he helped found wood laboratories to help the conservation of nature. He held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Forestry and Nature Conservation from the Wageningen University, The Netherlands. Mr. van der Slooten is survived by his loving wife, Tineke; daughter, Linda C. Bonilla; son in law, Marco Bonilla; and three grandsons: Alexander J., Marc E.H. and Eric N.F Bonilla. The van der Slooten and Bonilla families will honor their dear husband, father, and grandfather with a Celebration of Life service to be held on March 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Mount Bethel United Methodist Church – 4385 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068.
