Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Irene Mary Bertha Aden Crow, age 96, of Roswell, GA went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 2, 2018
Born October 8, 1921 to Gerhardt (George) Christian Aden and Dorothea Schroeder Aden, Irene grew up on a farm in Sterling, NE. After finishing high school, she received her R.N. at Missouri Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph, MO. Upon graduation, during WWII, the need for nurses was crucial so she joined the Army and was sent to Hawaii, then the Philippines to the 13th General Hospital, and ultimately was sent on the first hospital ship to land in Japan.
After the war, Irene returned to the U.S. and worked in New Orleans, LA, at the Veteran's Hospital until going to anesthesia school there at Charity Hospital. She then worked in Richmond, VA for a couple of years before moving to Atlanta, GA, where she lived for 29 years working as a nurse anesthetist at Crawford Long Hospital from l951-1953, Georgia Baptist Hospital from 1953-1969, and Doctor's Memorial Hospital from l969-1980. She moved back to New Orleans in 1980.
While living in New Orleans and on a visit to Atlanta, Irene fell in love with an old acquaintance, Howard Tim Crow. The two of them were married in 1994, at which time Irene then made Atlanta her permanent residence.
Irene loved to travel, sing in the choir, work in church organizations and play golf. She was an avid golfer, having played in several tournaments and in a pro-am-- many of which she won. She was club champion of North Fulton Golf Course, Atlanta, GA, City Handicap one year, and had a hole-in-one in two different hole-in-one contests.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her three older siblings: Velora Aden Klooz, Ervin Aden, and Cleo Aden. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Maureen Crow, of Pasadena, CA; a step-granddaughter, Claire Bevan, of New York, NY; and four nieces: Doris Klooz Cramer of Meridian, ID; Erma Klooz Bernum of Fort Collins, CO; Bonnie Aden Brooks of Clinton, MS; and Louellen Aden Berger of New Orleans, LA.
Irene will be remembered for her winning smile and her sweet spirit and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. The family would like to thank the staff at St. George Village in Roswell and her friend, Laura Schwab, who assisted her for many years.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in New Orleans, LA.
