January 15, 1932 – May 5, 2018 Jacquelyn Simmons Gow died at home after a brief illness on May 5, 2018. “Jackie”, as she was fondly called, was married to the love of her life, William F. (“Billy”) Gow, Jr for 65 years. Jackie was born January 15, 1932 in Chattanooga, TN to Lorraine and Jack R. Simmons. The family moved to Atlanta when Jackie was so young that she always considered herself a "native" Atlantan. She attended Garden Hills Elementary School, North Fulton High School, and Agnes Scott College. A homemaker and educator, Jackie was a school teacher at E. Rivers Elementary School before becoming a mother and raising a family. Jackie was a kind, forward-thinking woman of gentle strength. She was devoted to her family and had many, many friends. Jackie was a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church since childhood, and a leader in many organizations, including The Agnes Scott Alumnae Association (past President), The Fledgling Foundation, and The Georgia Association for Pastoral Care (former Board of Governors). Jackie is survived by her husband William F. (Billy) Gow, Jr. as well as her two children, William Bruce Gow (Natalie) and Lori Gow Haley. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Simmons Duncan, and three grandchildren, Winston Caroline Gow, Stephanie Lynn Davis, and Jennifer Rae Davis. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, John Wyatt Haley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice Atlanta Center. A service celebrating Jackie’s life with her friends and family will be held Thursday May 24th at 2:00 PM at Second–Ponce de Leon Baptist Church 2715 Peachtree Rd NE Atlanta GA 30305.
