Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Jay Clifton Sweet of Marietta, Georgia passed unexpectedly on May 7, 2019 at the age of 60. Jay was born in South Bend, Indiana to Jay Dee and Bernyce Sweet. Residing on the Eastside of South Bend throughout his formative years.
He attended St Joseph Grade School and graduated from Washington High School.
Jay followed his oldest sister, Jayan Allen to Clark College, Atlanta, GA where he obtained a Bachelors in Communications degree. Jay worked in many capacities from Bell South, Atlanta, GA, Coca Cola Atlanta and California, to McDonald's throughout Metro Atlanta while advancing through his career.
He was a member of The dReam Center of Atlanta and attended faithfully. His Christian walk began at two years of age as he sang the songs and played the tambourine from the Pentecostal Church, With his Aunt Elvira Gulliford. His knowledge of God remained with him even as missteps in life took place. Over the past two months Jay reached out to countless people to right wrongs, reacquaint lost friendships and maintain the love for others that he so readily gave. A loving character with a heart for people, the elderly, down trodden, homeless and anyone that he could encourage and make laugh. His ministry was of Helps and Laughter. One of the last songs that he sang for me was BeBe Winans, "Laughter is the Best Medicine", as he exited the car he sang "Take your medicine, Let it go down, let it go down....
He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Dr. Jayan Sweet Allen, Diane Sweet McMillian, and one brother, Robert Milton Sweet ( all residing in metro Atlanta). Jay has two nieces and five nephews and a host of grand nieces and nephews. He also has numerous cousins and friends who helped him become the light that he was. His impact was felt as he entered or exited a room. Bringing laughter, smiles and life to everything within his reach.
In lieu of flowers please send donations/checks to The Estate of Jay C. Sweet Scholarship Fund.
His message:
Throughout my life I have made friends with untold hundreds of people. May my antics bring a smile to your face as you recall our encounters.
You are treasures that are irreplaceable and will go with me wherever my journey takes me.
No buildings named after me; no monuments erected in my honor.
But I DID have the chance to know and love each and every friend as well as all my family members. How much more blessed can a person be?
So in the end, remember…live your life to the fullest, follow your heart, and make something amazing out of your life. Oh, and never stop smiling and laughing .
If you want to, you can look for me in the evening sunset or with the fall leaves dropping from the trees. You know I'll be there in one form or another. Of course that will probably comfort some while antagonizing others, but you know me…it's what I do.
I'll leave you with this…please don't cry because I'm gone; instead be happy that I was here. (Or maybe you can cry a little bit. After all, I have passed away).
Today I am happy and I am dancing. Probably naked.
Love you forever.
Jay
