Joan J. Norris, age 82, of Rex, Georgia, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 10, 2026. She passed suddenly at her home, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, love, and resilience that will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
Joan was born on August 8, 1943, in Courtland, Alabama, to Lewis Jordan and Helen Jordan, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Tammy Norris.
A woman of unwavering faith, Joan loved the Lord with all her heart and lived her life as an example of grace, perseverance, and compassion. She faced life’s many challenges with remarkable strength and courage, including the heartbreaking loss of her daughter. Through every trial, she remained steadfast in her faith and devoted to those she loved. One of the guiding principles of her life was a saying from her mother that she carried with her always: “Do all the good you can, for all the people you can, in all the ways you can, while you can.” These words were reflected in the kindness, generosity, and love she showed to others throughout her life.
Joan fiercely loved her family and found her greatest joy in spending time with them. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Cynthia Rigsby and Sylvia Norris; her grandchildren, Melissa Southern (Keith), Crystal Casper (Jason), and Eric Smothers (Sabrina); and her treasured great-grandchildren, Tyler Southern, Faith Southern, Jacob Martin (America), Dylan Martin, Destiney Green, Logan Burrell, and Ravyn Smothers.
She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Maria Ham (Will) and Kathy Copeland (Earl), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Joan had a special love for all animals and never met a stray she wouldn’t help. She adored her cats, cared for stray cats, and loved her rabbit. She found peace and happiness in nature, spending time gardening, tending to flowers, admiring trees, and enjoying God’s creation. She loved walks on the beach, shopping trips, and discovering treasured antiques—especially Ruby Red glass. She also enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and sharing good meals with family, particularly her favorite, crab legs.
Though her family grieves her passing, they find comfort in knowing that Joan is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before her and is resting in the presence of her Savior. Her faith, strength, kindness, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23

Rest in peace sweet lady. Always such a sweet woman.
My sweet and spunky grandma, I love you so much and can’t imagine life without you, you didn’t teach us that part. You are unimaginable missed; a part of our hearts went with you. I know you are with our Savior, and we take comfort in that.
My family, I love you all and I will continue to pray for peace to overflow and comfort you.
