Johi's Life
"Johi" John Calvin Kent was born March 23, 1946, in Sylvania, Georgia to Annie Ruth Everett Kent and "Jack" John Clifford Gant. He spent much of his early years attending church with his Loving Grandmother Lillian and developed an unwavering faith in God. He left the South at the tender age of 14 to experience the city life with his favorite Aunt and Uncle Waymon where he became active in The Boy Scouts, and Fort St. Methodist Church. After completing high school, he worked where most of the Motor City worked, at Ford Motor Company.
During his twenties, his thirst for knowledge sowed the seeds that grew into a life-long exploration of spirituality. His love for God was expressed through his study of many faiths, Unity, the Science of the Mind and metaphysics. From then on, his devotion to the Truth spread into his life endeavors.
His artistic talents came to life when he moved to Los Angeles in the early 80's where he became a successful professional photographer. While mastering his artistic talents, he produced photography for advertising agencies, major wine and tobacco distributors and public relations agencies.
Johi's experiences and disability in the early 90's led him to create different art forms from found objects, recycled materials, such as bones, broken pieces of jewelry, tree branches, cardboard boxes, etc. His amazing art has been on display as far west as California.
He loved art; but most of all he loved God, his family and mankind.
