John Michael Cunard Sr

January 28, 1952 ~ October 22, 2026

John Cunard, known to many as Johnny, was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Ruby (Layson) and Henry Cunard. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his late brothers Sammy and David. He is survived by his son John Michael Cunard Jr., his sisters Linda

Parker, Patricia Haliburton, Faye Leonard, and Sally Hornsby, his brother Paul “Doug” (Jennifer), and his sister in-law Lynda Cunard, along with many nieces and nephews and a number of longtime friends. He dearly loved each and every one.

He leaves a strong legacy of steadfast integrity, hard work, and love for family, church, and service to others. He had a long career as a Building Engineer, serving many facilities and buildings faithfully over the years. He loved serving his church,

Hemphill Memorial Presbyterian Church, and he played a vital role there as an elder and head of building and grounds maintenance.

His calling for service led him to be an active Freemason beginning in the year 2000. He was a past member of Stockbridge Masonic Lodge #691, where he served as the Chairman of the Board for the Rainbow Girls Faith Assembly #12, and for years, he has been the Ambassador to the Masonic Children’s home for St. John’s Masonic Lodge #45. Spreading the Gospel of Jesus was another one of his great passions. He was an active member of the Henry County Gideons since 2022. He loved distributing God’s Word and served in his role faithfully as a camp treasurer.

A proud Georgia Bulldogs fan, he loved UGA football and the traditions of game day. Tailgating with friends, cheering on the Dawgs, and celebrating victories were some of his happiest moments. His love for the red and black will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Go Dawgs!

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Gideons International Henry County Georgia camp to purchase Bibles in the memory of John M.

Cunard. Donations can be mailed to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 987 McDonough GA, 30253 or made online at SendTheWord.org
