Obituary of June P. Atkins June Patricia Atkins was born in Christ Church, Barbados, on June 2, 1943, to Julius Edgar Atkins and Vera Aileen Atkins. June was the youngest of her parent’s three children. June received her primary school education at St. Lawrence Primary School and completed her high school education at Parkinson Secondary Modern School in Barbados. She immigrated to Toronto, Canada, in the 1960s, where she trained as a secretary and bookkeeper. Then, in the 1970s, she moved and joined her family in Brooklyn, New York, where she attended nursing school. June had a long and dedicated nursing career working to care for the sick and elderly at Caledonia Hospital and Green Park Care Center, in Brooklyn, New York, until her retirement. June enjoyed Broadway shows, 70’s & 80’s music, and shopping. June departed this life on October 27, 2018 at the age of 75. June is preceded in death by her parents Vera and Julius. She is survived by siblings Claudine M. Peace Mason (Rita) and Michael Atkins; sister-in-law, Susan Atkins of Sheffield, England; Son Darian Pilgrim; Nieces Cicely Peace-Edouard, Sharon M. Peace, Esq., Zakiya Bale, and many close family members and relatives residing in the United States and Barbados, West Indies. Visitation and the funeral service will be held on November 10, 2018 at Southern Cremations & Funerals at Cheatham Hill, 1861 Dallas Highway SW, Marietta, GA 30064. Viewing will begin at 2:00 pm followed by the Home-Going Celebration at 3:00 pm. Both the viewing and the celebration on June’s life will take place at the Columbarium on the grounds of the facility. Flowers can be sent to the funeral home. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Delmar Gardens of Smyrna, Optum Health and Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care for their support during June’s final days.
