Kenneth Paul Newton

September 8, 1960 ~ August 23, 2019

Kenneth Paul Newton passed away peacefully after a near two-year battle with Head and Neck Cancer at Piedmont Walton Hospital in Monroe, Georgia on Friday August 23, 2019. He was born September 8, 1960 in Saranac Lake, NY. He was a proud Air Force Veteran as an Airlift Electronic and Environmental Systems Technician May 1982 – April 1991. He earned several awards, medals, and ribbons and served in Desert Sheild/Desert Storm Area of Responsibility August 1990 -April 1991. He loved to share his experiences with those that asked. He studied business management during that time, but computer technology was really what he enjoyed. He’d talk all day to anyone about computers, gadgets, sci-fi and history. The History and Sci-Fi channels were always on the tube in the background… always learning! His favorite thing to do, though, was sharing a good road trip with his loving wife and his beloved dog, Newt. Anyone that got close to him knew he was just one great big kid! He lived very simply and enjoyed all the simple things in life. With family spread across the U.S. it was hard to get everyone together, but he had the opportunity to share time with all of them through these past couple of years and was able to spend his last few months in a peaceful setting and was even able to participate in some lawn mowing… he loved getting on a Zero-turn and could mow a lawn into a work of art. Ken was preceded in death by his father Thomas J. Newton and brother, Thomas W. Newton. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Cathy Newton of Monroe, Georgia, his mother, Elizabeth Sutphen of Queensbury, NY, his children, David (Nikki) Newton of Magnolia, Texas, Adam Newton of Rockport, Texas, Alexis (Mathew) Phillips of Bury, Norfolk, United Kingdom, Andrea Newton of Columbus, Ohio , stepchildren, Lindsay Tuthill (Frank Snyder) and Dustin Tuthill, all of Columbus Ohio, sisters Kristine Peterson of Titusville, Florida, Kathryn (Robert) Simpson of Monroe, Georgia, Jennifer Novak (Mike) of Syracuse, New York, Christine Newton (Steve Ginter) of Buffalo, New York, and Karen Magyar of Buffalo, New York, sister in-law, Leanna Newton of New Carlisle, mother in-law, Joyce Mehrle of Columbus, Ohio, sister in-law Sherri Bishop (Roger) of Bucyrus, Ohio, and brother in-law, Greg Mehrle of Columbus, Ohio. He also leaves behind his beautiful grandchildren, Dominique, Brianna, and Abby Newton, Landon and Elizabeth Newton, Andreas Phillips, Malaysia Napier, Aubrey Snyder, and Autumn Tuthill plus many very loving and caring cousins. Ken was in awe of the love and support shown to him during his very courageous battle. There aren’t enough words to express his gratitude. A special thank you to dear friends, Jared Tunnat, Rebecca Fulk, and Joe Crandol , all of Columbus, Ohio. He loved you all very dearly. Ken also adored and loved all animals! He leaves behind his very dedicated fur baby, Newt Newton and cat, sweet little Sophie. When Ken was diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer in November 2017, he swore to be an advocate for Head and Neck cancer awareness and the importance of getting the HPV vaccination. His wife, Cathy, will be doing her best to fulfill that plight. The care and support he received from OSUCCC - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio and Winship Cancer Center of Emory Atlanta, Georgia was tremendous. A special thank you to Dr. Kiwanuka at the VA Medical Center in Decatur Georgia. Her compassion for Ken exceeded the patient-doctor relationship! “For love is the creator of our favorite memories and the foundation of our fondest dreams” - Anonymous A memorial service will be held 5pm Thursday August 29, 2019 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church 164 Church St. Loganville, Ga. 30052. There will also be a Celebration of Life open house for our Columbus, Ohio family and friends 4pm-7pm Sunday September 8, 2019 at Zinnia Ceremonies and Small Events 2280 West Henderson Rd.
